I watched this based completely on the metascore and the fact i'd never heard of it. Dear God I shouldn't have bothered. This movie is dull, the script is awful, the style is an eye sore. This is the type of pretentious trash that should be destined for movie hell. Terrible.

This movie is a true gem. This is probably all that I ever expect when I step into the theatre and be in front of the screen. Claire Denis amazingly established characters

Loved the camera pans on this film. Sound is incredibly power-full. Hard to follow the story, but keeps you on the edge of your seat with suspense. Unlikely traditional French Film, and story telling.

The character relationships presented are all very intriguing, and all of the actors (including the single-scene supporting actors) give the movie an enveloping depth, but the movie just doesn't allow anything to develop from that depth - in a movie that is trying very hard to be a drama, atmosphere only goes so far.

Claire Denis, not always an easy director, is in top form here directing an almost all-black cast with grace and delicacy. For the happy few, this is French art house cinema at its unpretentious best.

Claire Denis’ latest may appear whisper-thin on the surface, yet it’s marvelously profound, illuminating the love between a father and daughter but also highlighting the difficulty of relinquishing what most people spend a lifetime putting into place.
