Berardinelli is off-base, as per custom, but I'd expect more insight from Hoberman. Moodysson's film packs a punch precisely because he's at the end of his rope, and the feel-good humanism of TOGETHER and SHOW ME LOVE aren't an option anymore. A HOLE IN MY HEART is a skillful, yet barely-controlled cry of rage against a media culture where porn is respectable and Berardinelli is off-base, as per custom, but I'd expect more insight from Hoberman. This is a "Real World" episode not gone horribly wrong, but with its woman-hating subtext brought right out into the open. Enjoy! Expand

Not a film for the faint of heart… A Hole in My Heart is a cinematic challenge that eats slowly at the soul but never insults the audience or its characters.

This is the first occasion on which Moodysson has lost his balance, allowing his wrath to outweigh the charity that he used to extend to even the most boorish of his characters.

Dark, provocative and disturbing, the new film by Lukas Moodysson is definitely not for all tastes but solidifies his standing as the most interesting director working in Scandinavia today.
