I think critics are only looking for the edgier type of movies and can't see the art in making a movie that is sentimental...but what is wrong with sentimentality? I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and others of this nature as a way to turn off my brain distracted by all the loud, violent and sexy types or the horror genre, maybe because I am older, but I have always loved these types andI think critics are only looking for the edgier type of movies and can't see the art in making a movie that is sentimental...but what is wrong with sentimentality? Vanessa shines in this and I am so glad she is still around to make these movies. Collapse

Depending on the viewer's emotional need, this film is satisfying, although from point of view like art, it is below par. But then again, let's not be so intellectual, after all we should sit back and try to escape all the duldrum duration of the film. Heaven knows, so much garbage sourrend us; it is nice to communicate with the unseen Angels in a clean world.

Let yourself go with the story, enjoy the wonderful Vanessa Redgrave and the young Trevor Morgan. The critics are wrong - it's a great film.

The lack of good reviews from the media about this movie show society's inability to accept the afterlife. This was one of the best movies I've ever seen. It dealt with a part of this boys grief that needed to be dealt with and that was the comforting fact that he COULD say goodbye to his mother. Have seen it twice and now plan to purchase it. Expand

One wonders what the critics who pan this movie have to fear. With a little deep thinking and compassion, the movie carries a message that deserves to be heard. I'm not one for mush...I can see through most 'sentimental' movies...but this one deserves better than it got from the critic reviews. See it and judge for yourself. 1. With its mystical mumbo jumbo and even a helpful beam of celestial light in one scene, A Rumor of Angels is a kind of cinematic comfort food for an undemanding audience.
  2. As A Rumor of Angels reveals itself to be a sudsy tub of supernatural hokum, not even Ms. Redgrave's noblest efforts can redeem it from hopeless sentimentality.
  3. The emotional aspects of the story are treated with such a heavy hand, the supernatural aspects are so vague and uninvolving, and the group dynamic is so unconvincing that one can't quite imagine why anybody bothered.
