Excellent and glowingly attractive cast can't quite rise above the cliched material -- although if you're a baby boomer, you'll probably enjoy the soundtrack. Of the many family-social screw-ups that took place during the summer of '69, I doubt that many were resolved so nicely! Not a fair comparison, perhaps, but I couldn't help thinking of Diane Lane's searing performance in a betterExcellent and glowingly attractive cast can't quite rise above the cliched material -- although if you're a baby boomer, you'll probably enjoy the soundtrack. 1. Standing back a step from A Walk on the Moon's dippy charms, the movie delivers less than it initially promises.
  2. Paula Gray wrote the script (it was her UCLA senior thesis), and if there are gooey spots, there's also nicely turned, lived-in dialogue and a gentle affection for all her characters.

The movie's problem is that it loads the casting in a way that tilts the movie in the direction of a Harlequin romance.
