Imagine "His Girl Friday" crossed with "Armageddon" and you’ll get a sense of the unfortunate disconnect that prevents an enjoyable light entertainment from achieving rom-com nirvana.

The actors give the proceedings a mostly quick-witted repartee that prevails over the occasionally stale script.

It’s playful, stable and sexy, thanks to a cast that knows how to find the sweet spots.

Attractively staged and spiced through with raunch, About Last Night is still a pleasant enough romp, even if you have no intention of returning its phone calls.

Despite a few deviations, About Last Night is basically the same sanitized rom-com, bearing the slightest hint of resemblance to its source material. In other words, most of the perversity of Perversity has again been excised — the Chicago too.

The cast does what it can with — and clearly self-improves upon — the essentially thin, at times choppy material.

Hall and Hart have appeared together in several movies, including 2012’s Think Like A Man, but have never been paired as love interests. Here, they lock into a manic, improvisational groove from minute one.

Daring and gutless at the same time. It's daring in that it's a romantic movie that's willing to be coarse. It's gutless in that it refuses to paint any of its characters in a negative light, even temporarily.

It's all fairly standard rom-com stuff.

I know I saw the original years ago but couldn't remember any of it - so I had no real expectations. Michael Ealy is awesome (enjoy his stuff on Almost Human), and Kevin Hart is absolutely an A-list star now. His comedic delivery is impeccable. And his female counterpart Regina Hall absolutely rises to his level. Well... Nope, won't go there. Recommended! Full Review »

"About Last Night" 10 Scale Rating: 5.0 (Mediocre) ...

The Good: While his relationship with Joy Bryant was stale, Micheal Ealy was solid as usual. Kevin Hart and Regina Hall carried the movie however, and their relationship was far more interesting ... and funny. Ealy and Hart did an excellent job portraying buddies who are at very different places in their lives as some of the funnier scenes involve dialogue between the two of them.

The Bad: Unfortunately, the relationship that the film revolves around was uninteresting and boring. I just didn't care if they worked things out or not and several times found myself asking myself why they were together to begin with. The outcome is also way too neat and tidy, which seemed very unrealistic.
