  • Starring:
  • Summary: Africa's the place and Ace is on the case, setting out to rescue an animal he loathes: a bat! Jim Carrey returns as Ace Ventura, the alligator-wrasslin', elephant-calling, monkeyshining, loogie-launching, burning coals-crossing, disguise-mastering pet detective. If you're ready to laugh like a pack of hyenas, if you want more fun than an industrial-sized barrel of monkeys, you know what to do. Heed the call. (Warner Bros.) Collapse

Written and directed by Steve Oedekerk, the latest "Ace" has a little more of everything than the first: more special effects, goofy props and "Airplane"-like sight gags.

It's a death-defying hodgepodge anchored by the complete confidence of star Carrey.
  3. Carrey is in top form here, giving a wildly confident, physically draining performance with all the stops pulled out.

As always, the verbal comedy is nonsensical and vulgar, and the physical humor is rigorously thought out and really vulgar.
  5. Reviewed by: Barry Walters
Carrey's style is to keep the jokes moving so quickly and with such force that you can hardly stop to consider how stupid they are.
  6. Instead, Mr. Carrey turns up in a sloppy second Ace Ventura film that's little more than an echo of the first. A two-minute trailer wouldn't miss many of its highlights.

Wearying, stupefying, dumber than dumb, When Nature Calls would be a career ender for Carrey--except that a zillion people have seen it. Stop this, folks. It'll only encourage him.

Some great parts in this movie, like the monopoly guy scene, The slinkee scene, Rhino giving birth, and parking like a glove. If you like dumb and dumber, in living color and a lot of Carrey's comedy movies (not serious roles) you will love this. Expand

My favorite comedy of all time. If you do not die laughing as Ventura struggles gamely to extricate himself from the fake rhino, then you are not alive.

Funny and ugly. Ace Ventura played by none other than Jim Carrey is well written and is really, really ridiculous. The film will provide laughter and fun moments! Expand

I think what's so great about When Nature Calls is that there are so many memorable and quote-able scenes. First saw it in the early 2000s and have seen it about half a dozen times since and I can still recall every scene of the film from start to finish. Stupid? Yes but it's still hilarious to watch. Even though Ace Ventura; When Nature Calls excedes it's predecessor, it's hard to get over how annoying Jim Carrey's character is.
