As a person with Asperger's, I think this movie is completely accurate in depicting what the disorder is like. I think it is safe to say that the Film Threat reviewer does not have the disorder, otherwise she would realize how well the writers and the actor, Hugh Dancy put this character together. It was such a beautiful movie, because a lot of people with the disorder are misunderstood, and that was another thing represented well in the movie. It showed people without the disorder that people with Asperger's are just as much of people as everyone else, and even better is that it showed people with the disorder the same thing. I would highly recommend this movie to anybody, whether you have Asperger's Syndrome or not. Expand

This movie is entirely delightful. It is a love story, but explores more about loving someone with a disorder. You won't like the movie, if you don't like to understand or like the psychology behind it. It was also done pretty well, and had a good ending. Overall, definately worth your time.

Rose Byrne and Hugh Dancy gave outstanding performances.Having taught students with Asperger's, I was particularly touched by Dancy's character. The supporting cast was excellent. The movie is worth another viewing.

I liked it a lot. I thought it was well acted and convincing as a story about a rather unusual relationship. This movie was well worth the money spent to see it.

My husband and I took our 24 yr old son (with Asperger's) too see this - we had to leave - not because it wasn't good - it was so hard to watch - my son related too much to it, and got very nervous. My husband couldn't hold back the tears (mainly for our son) - I'll watch the movie again later, with my NT daughter. It was just too close to home. - I would recommend renting the movie if you plan on showing this to people with Asperer's and their families. Expand

Hugh Dancy and Rose Byrne are terrific, but the story seems a little made for t.v. to lift it up beyond good. Nice to see Amy Irving again.

Adam is a hilarious movie. The combination of a toy designer who has Asperger's Syndrome and his neighbor(Neither of whom understand each other)are what makes Adam the masterpiece it is. Don't miss it.

A beautiful film about love that leaves you all warmed up inside. Dancy is brilliant in portraying a guy suffering from Asperger's syndrome falling for the girl next door (played by Byrne who is a wonderful co-lead) who learns to love the man despite his idiosyncrasies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My nephew whose name is Adam has Asperger's so we were all able to relate. Although the movie's Adam is much higher functioning the markers are there. One of them we could really relate to was when Adam was explaining to Beth astronomy and sciences and she said she didn't understand. He just started over thinking he needed to repeat himself. It wasn't a great movie and I probably would not have liked it at all except we found it interesting because of my nephew. Expand

I would really like to give this movie a solid 10, as Hugh Dancy's brilliant portrayal of a guy with Aspergers Syndrome really moves me. I have aspergers and I feel I can see the AS in Adam in every single scene. I have bought more than 10 copies and given friends and familiy a copy whenever I've felt I needed them to see what its like to be me. Unfortunately, the story with Rose's fathers situation is a tad thin and feels mostly like filling. That will however not keep me from giving Adam a solid recommendation; This is a movie you simply have to see if you are - or more importantly know anybody who are - autistic. Expand

This is simply one of the sweetest romantic comedies ever made. It matches When Harry Met Sally on every term of sincerity and humor. Its true-life depiction of people with real problems and how they learn to love one another in spite of them is truly inspirational. Everyone should be required to watch this movie because it simply warms your soul and makes your heart bleed. A true cinematic gem.

I find nearly every film about mentally challenged characters excruciating to watch...None of these movies ever come close to accurately depicting what it's like to live with mental challenges.
  2. A sensitive but not sentimental story about a romance involving a mentally challenged young man never makes a misstep.

Emotionally potent performances, gently offbeat humor and writer-helmer Max Mayer's assured touch guide this tender New York love story to a quietly hopeful conclusion.
