Kate Hudson is such a good actress who hasn't been in a good film since Almost Famous. This movie is still not as bad as "How to Lose a Guy...", one of the worst & most contrieved romantic comedies ever made, but is still so unrealistic & sopolistic about love & relationships that you wonder if Hollywood screenwriters live in a seperate universe. Hudson is great (as usual) and Luke Wilson is killing time between good films (we hope). Even Reiner's casual yet sleek direction cannot save what must be a horrible Ephron-wannabe script. Expand

Boring! Left 20 minutes in to go watch Finding Nemo in the adjacent theatre.

This film is all over the place. I enjoyed Ms. Hudson's charm and I laughed a few times but not nearly enough to recommend the film. I still don't know if this guy's supposed to be a writer or a romance novelist because the cliche ridden crap he spews is pretty god awful. Most of the supporting cast are under used and that's too bad, but it just wants to be a small romantic comedy and that's what it is. Expand

What are you talking about!?That was just a stupid story about a couple who were trying to sort things out for themselves. That's why no one will want to see it.

Has some charming moments, but both leads seem oddly miscast and the whole thing just isn't convincing.

The chemistry between Hudson and Wilson was good, but so much more could have been done using the characters in the novel he was writing. Sophie Marceau was brutally underutilized as well.

This eight maybe is too much for this movie, but I'm crazy about romantic comedies...Why isn't life a whole romantic comedy?

Though it has some mildly amusing moments (mostly in the visuals accompanying the novel's narration), Alex & Emma is disappointing, neither very romantic nor very comic.

The lack of sexual tension is astounding.

You can't help but think how much better this film would be had Woody Allen directed it...How much more acerbic fun would it be to see Judy Davis playing stenographer to a neurotic, writer's-blocked Woody?
