  • Summary: A quiet night on the outskirts of a small town in Maine is interrupted when Seth (Graham Skipper) witnesses his best friend Mark (Josh Ethier) vanish in a brilliant flash of blue light. Two years later, Seth is still dealing with the fallout from the freaky incident, amid local suspicion that he is to blame for his friend's disappearance. When a string of grisly murders disrupts the community, Seth believes Mark has returned. Together with Mark's ex-girlfriend Jen (Vanessa Leigh), he races to find out if their friend is responsible—or if something beyond their understanding is unfolding before them. [IFC Films] Expand

    But scary? Not so much.

While the cast and crew's competence well exceed what anyone would expect from this breed of B movies, they cannot compensate for the flawed internal logic in the screenplay.

In the end, there just isn’t much of a movie here; Almost Human clocks in at a mere 76 minutes, and that includes what may well be the slowest end-credits crawl in cinema history.

In this blood-splattered wasteland, neither original ideas nor acting skills flourish.

With acting this wooden even among those not playing zombies, though one at least attempts a rural Maine accent, the suspense lies less in who will die than in how grisly the means.

Almost Human is desperately trying to be a spin off of "Fire in the Sky". Nevertheless the movie fails and just turns out to be a disappointing horror film that isn't just scary! If a horror movie fails to be perfect, it should at least scare the hell out of me, in this film, it is not scary. Expand

If you think Scanners or Fire in the Sky then you're thinking good. If you like good look elsewhere as this is as a far from good as you can get. The script is dreadful and offers major flaws throughout, story line is thin at best and the acting, with a couple of exceptions is up there with one of the best examples of utter drivel that I have come across in nearly 30 years of enjoying movies. That said it still makes The Blare Witch Project look like a cinematic masterpiece.

Avoid this at all costs, utterly dreadful stuff I am sorry to say.
