As a film alone, it is a fine effort. Some good suspense, a twist or two, great acting, good direction. As an adaptation of a brilliant novel it is disappointing. Most of the main aspects that made the book so great: brisk telling, unforeseen twists, psychological uncertainty, a sense of evil, and deep character development were missing. Watch and enjoy the movie, then read and love the book.

True to Patterson's book, I liked the movie. I'd score it an 8 out of 10--the acting is really terrific, which can elevate even a bad film for me. Freeman, Potter and little Mika Boorem were great.

This film is AMAZING! **** who say it is not have some sort of problem! It is funny, exciting and very interesting! The acting is amazing and the storyline is fantastic! Morgan Freeman is a true gem, along with the excellent Monica Potter, Michael Wincott and Mika Boorem! Go watch this movie in the cinema and then buy it on DVD because this is one that you will want to watch over and over!

It's too formulaic, and ultimately too implausible to accept, but a skilled performance by Morgan Freeman, and slick direction by Lee Tamohori make it seem for a while like a reasonably entertaining time killer.

A fantastic movie, brilliant acting, excellent plot, this is one of those rare films that you can watch again and again! A lot of twists and turns with amazing direction! This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat! A thriller that will not creep you out with anything gory but will keep you on the edge of your seat! STRAP YOURSELF IN! AMAZING!

A fine, fine film! This film does not let the book down, but is not as creepy or gory, an amazing watch and very addictive. Awesome acting and an truly brilliant plot, yes, we know films and we know for a fact that this is one that you have to see..

This movie embarassed the effort of "The Seven Deadly Sins." The story line was implausible from the convoluted part about the school teacher's identification to the idea of a two-bit U.S. Senator with a masive Secret Service detail to the wanton killings with no rhyme or reason. A 36 rating is better than deserved!!

I was a big fan of "Arachnophobia"(1990). Can you imagine my surprise to find that this wasnt the "prequel" I expected? There is no compelling reason to see this movie in theaters..wait for the DVD release and postpone your suffering..unless you believe that Senator's kids each have 5 secret service people guarding them...

For the most part, it fails to be suspenful, or clever.

A terribly formulaic action/thriller with no good scares and even less action. A nice twist arrives at the end, but even that seems cheap and manipulative. Morgan Freeman is fine, but Monica Potter is as believable as a Secret Service Agent as Denise Richards was as a nuclear physicist in "The World Is Not Enough." This film is just nonsensical trash trying to pass itself off as a thriller.

Though Freeman is excellent, the so-called "twist" is discovered with a horrible scene, which makes the overall impact of the surprise disappointing.

This is a fine, fine film with a fine, fine cast and when you look back from it, Along Came a Spider is one for the ages with a mix of comedy, action and that feeling when you just do not know who to trust!

  1. There's not much here for a great actor to sink his teeth into once, let alone twice.
  2. Relentlessly bland.

If Michael Wincott -- who under normal circumstances can chill your blood just by breathing -- can't make the villain compelling, you know the movie's in trouble.
