  • Starring:
  • Summary: Alvin and the Chipmunks, a global phenomenon to generations of fans, becomes a live action/CGI motion picture event with a contemporary comic sensibility. Songwriter Dave Seville transforms singing chipmunks Alvin, Simon, and Theodore into pop sensations while the out-of-control trio lays waste to Dave's home, wreaks havoc with his career, and turns his once-orderly life upside down. Absolutely--four out of five stars for being cuter, funnier, and, besides, the character design far exceeded my expectations.

A harmless and frequently humorous trifle.

Lee, acting through gritted teeth, barely musters the energy to yell “Alvin!,” but the chipmunks themselves -- voiced by Justin Long, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney -- are surprisingly appealing, though their newly R&B-tinged rendition of “Witch Doctor” is god-awful.
  4. Youngsters who love the shrieky singing and don't notice the tapioca of the story will probably get their money's worth. Parents: Bring earplugs.

There's just not enough here for a movie. It's almost as if some ideas were meant to live for three and a half minutes each Christmas season, not to get stretched to the breaking point for 50 years.

Despite its shout-outs to the holiday season, this is essentially airplane fodder, not a perennial. Don’t hold your breath waiting for the sequel.

This partially animated, charm-free atrocity is awful enough to instantly cure any remaining nostalgia for the rodent trio.

Now I don't want to defend the awful 'talking cgi animal' genre, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy this movie. Be sure to watch if you enjoy Chipmunk songs like I do! Expand

If you're looking for a movie like the old Chipmunks movies, you'll probably find yourself entertained. Don't expect ground-breaking work, because this certainly isn't it, but it's a well meaning attempt to pay tribute to Alvin and the Chipmunks series, and succeeds in being just that. The plot is predictable and there's no serious depth, but if you go in with the right state of mind it makes for a heart-warming piece of escapism. Expand

It's not great. Good for little kids but not exactly for teens and adults. Though it's not the worst movie I ever seen.

It was framed the "Movie of the year" and it became a hit, though I don't know why it spawned some sequels. Sure, it's cute and odd, but it just gives out an equal thumb. Expand

"Alvin and the Chipmunks" is somewhat enjoyable, as it feels quirky in a good way and new, but the script and plot has a familiar kid-genre, leaving nothing truly special to adults. The storyline is basic, nothing fascinating or interesting or, plus the singing aspect to the film does feel bland. Besides this, the film will succeed to entertain, but not with many things that are special. Expand

It is the 2nd best movie of the whole Chipmunk series. The plot of the movie is too boring and too predictable. The chipmunks are very annoying. I gave a 2 because of the overall impact of the movie, it's good. But it is still absolutely a really bad film.......... Collapse
