I really enjoyed it. This movie wasn't supposed to make you think - that was the beauty of it. It was obviously a parody on Hollywood itself, and I thought they all played their stereotypical parts very well.

Given the unfavorable reviews, I was pleasantly surprised. Hank Azaria is hilarious, as are Christopher Walken and Alan Arkin in their tiny roles.

Not as bad as the critics say. But could have been better. Still, it was nice to see a romantic comedy however flawed.

What is this? As a romantic comedy it's a bomb, but as a parody of a romantic comedy it's fun and light as a feather. I choose to see it as a paid vacation for the star power involved, so who cares if it's a little off balance. Zeta-Jones is her usual hot self, Cusack maintains the usual inferiority complex, and Crystal again hilariously dabbles in not taking other people's lives seriously. But you know what, Julia Roberts is surprisingly entertaining in a supporting role. Sometimes less is more. Of course when she becomes the central love interest, the movie (like all her other romantic comedies) must end - it is not possible for anything funny to ensue. Such is the nature of the genre. One of my all-time top 20 worst movies, right up there with Batman and Robin, and VI Warshawski…writhingly banal and aggressively unfunny. You can't believe a film can manage to waste the combined talents it has on tap (Crystal himself and Julia Roberts are the least of it…try Catherine Zeta-Jones, John Cusack, Hank Azaria, Stanley Tucci and even Christopher Walken), but this one does. Primarily Crystal's fault, for a genuinely dreadful script, but also a good deal of the blame can be attributed to producer and former Disney chairman Joe Roth, who somehow talked people who should have known better (including Crystal) into letting him direct (Christmas at the Kranks, anyone?). Bad, bad, bad. Expand

I'm not one of the world's bigger Julia Roberts fans, but how does a alleged satire with John Cusack, Billy Crystal, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stanley Tucci, and Christopher Walken fail so miserably.....perhaps because they got a studio head to direct a film that's supposed to take shots about Hollywood.

An insipid outing. Most of the jokes fall flat, and the movie occasionally falls back on boring physical comedy in a pitiful attempt to compensate. All the characters are hollow, and the only truly amusing points come in the last ten minutes. Want a romantic comedy that's both romantic and funny? Rent "High Fidelity."

I can't understand why this movie got critically panned except perhaps the professional film reviewers can't see it from the eyes of a regular person. This film wasn't "about" Hollywood any more than "Caddyshack" was "about" golfing, "Animal House" was "about" frats, or "My Cousin Vinny" was "about" lawyers . . . When it hits $100M the critics will be dumbfounded.

I went into this movie expecting to feel such shame for my beloved John Cusack, but left feeling oddly elated, treated to ice cream when I thought I'd get onions. The film is no great shakes and doesn't try to be (when was the last time a Billy Crystal movie did?) but it's quite entertaining. I thought the chemistry between Roberts and Cusack was pretty fine, though they had a paltry amount of interaction. The bed scene was really quite wonderful...Yes, days later I was still picking apart the movie and finding yet another plot hole or another, but while those two hours were passing, I admit that I was embarrassingly entertained. And it's worth watching just to see Zeta-Jones vamp and whine so wonderfully; who else could make Julia Roberts look so truly homely??? But the fat suit scenes...ick. Really, this is a fine summer movie: mindless fun & great stars who seem to be enjoying themselves. Expand

How can a lot of bickering be considered entertainment? I found the movie uncomfortable viewing. What a stinker!!

Another movie Zeta-Jones did it for the money. I came to watch entertainment and all I get is bickering.

HELLO!!!??? Was everyone asleep at the wheel during the making of this movie, or what? I have never watched a movie that just seemed so, well--flat! Even John Cusack (whom I love) couldn't save this movie--he has zero chemistry with either Roberts and Zeta-Jones (who is JUST AWFUL) and he's sadly miscast as a matinee-idol type.

It was funny! It's vintage John Cusack, moody, lovesick, but with bile in his heart... and everyone was great (Hank Azaria's character was a bit off, though, and if you hate Julia Roberts, you won't like all those close-ups of her). The audience was laughing out loud, even clapping and hooting -- why won't anyone cut this movie a break?

Hey, hey, hey. T'int that bad. It's got a great cast, and some really rather funny bits - although Roberts is not dowdy enough. Or at all. Cameron Diaz in Being John Malkovich. That's how it should be done.

The average score is probably a little low because no one is going to say that "this is the greatest movie ever!" But I was pleasantly suprised. I usually balk a little at romantic comedies and given this one is more comedy than romance, but it's quite a good movie!

Not funny, not witty, not smart, just tedious and pointless. The plot is not only ludicrous but uninteresting. The actors tried their best with the limp script but there was no chemistry between any of them. Only thing I like about the film, was Frank Azaria's going to the "hunket"!

Chockablock with things we're not supposed to notice: that Roberts is wasted; that she and Cusack have no characters to play, so it's virtually impossible to understand why she loves him or vice versa; that the script provides comedy without bite and romance without resonance.
  2. This is the downside of Roberts' giant success and her dazzling ability to charm: Every time she goes plain, as she did in the little-seen "Mary Reilly" and "Michael Collins," our princess simply fizzles.
  3. Terrifically funny romantic comedy, is a slam-dunk for Julia Roberts, the Michael Jordan of cuteness.
