IainFFeb 26, 200910Best film ever made. Simple as that. The effect it has on your emotions, one minute you're smiling and laughing along, then it will suddenly skip to silence, and death, and horror... The horror. You can't miss this one.

JoeK.Feb 28, 20060The original was a classic. Flawed, but still a classic. This new version adds 49 minutes that's virtually worthless, not to mention tedious - a French plantation sequence seems to go on forever while adding little to the picture. Rent it and watch it ONCE, but don't count on loving this version more than the original.

-
JimM.Oct 7, 200510The BEST movie ever.
-
-
EdouardV.Aug 27, 200110The added footage makes the film slower so that you can grow into the madness of war.
-
-
GilbertM.Nov 11, 200210Possibly a little swollen now, but you can't argue with one of the greatest movies of all time. Oh, you can (Edelstein) but you're wrong. And a moron. And wrong.

-
GoodyL.Jun 26, 200210A remake of a movie that dosen't f... it up.
-
-
PIRANHAG.Dec 3, 200310What was good is now outstanding.
-
-
JeremySep 29, 200310The original is ultimately the better version, as a clumsy french plantation scene threatens to break the rhythm. But ANR gave people a chance to see one of the American masterpeices the way it was meant to see, on the big screen.

-
MickeyH.Jan 8, 200410It's the best fim ever even people who haven't seen it know about the excellent helicopter flight seen with the flight of the valkyre bluring out. true classic.

-
AkhilK.Jul 10, 200410Simply too good for words and even better for pictures. You HAVE to see this movie in its entirety to realize the crazed dream and hallucinagenic direction has gave forth to. Magnificent. All two hours and 15 minutes of it.

-
FelixK.Oct 31, 200710What is left to say ? Nothing, I think. It's the best war movie ever, so that it belongs to the 10 best pictures of all time. Everybody who has never seen this one has missed a piece of culture !!!

Jan 12, 201110My personal favorite film of all time. It changed the way I view film, art, and even life. The acting is flawless, it has the most beautiful cinematography in the history of film, the messages are powerful and haunting. It stays with you the rest of your life. Which is something not many films can claim.

Jun 4, 20118Well, my favorite movie of all time is Apocalypse Now. But I mean the original theatrical cut, this Redux version is okay, but all the added scenes is really pointless and they can really do without.
-
SeanC.Aug 9, 20017The "new" cut of Apocalypse Now enlarges the original's quotient of brilliance and b.s. It's a vision, nothing more than that maybe, but compared to what's showing on today's screens, that's an accomplishment.

BenjaminA.Aug 7, 20044I guess I'm just not a fan of this movie, simply put.

VanA.Aug 5, 20019Surely, the best movie-going experience of the summer. Especially if one compares it to such drivel as "A.I.," "Tomb Raider," "Swordfish," and even "Planet of the Apes." I have seen the four hour rough cut of Apocalpyse, and always thought we needed to get deeper into Kurtz's head. The Redux version is definitely the best movie-going experience this summer.

IbanLApr 9, 20085There are really good things in this film. It is really original, and I love the way it reaches such an spiritual atmosphere without ever losing the sense of reality. Nevertheless, this long version of the film is terribly slow and boring. I kind of lose interest very early.

GregE.May 7, 20039The colour, the sound, the smell... All new directors and producers of movies should study this film, and learn how to make a damn good piece of cinema. I have not seen a movie this good in over 10 years.

DMJul 19, 20041030 from Slate? David Edelstein should be ashamed of himself.

-
GaborA.Mar 4, 200510Apocalypse Now is hands down the best movie ever made. Nothing comes close. The new scenes are of mixed affect making Redux as good but not better or worse than the original.

-
JBarrApr 8, 200510A very cool alternative to common pop-culture crap movies. Two thumbs up to good acting and a creative screen play!

-
[Anonymous]Apr 8, 20057It is a great movie, but its way too long. it felt like the movie dragged on for like 5 hours.

DaveC.Sep 24, 20057It's never quite the film it wants to be. It's more than just the river in this film that is full of meanders and the final 40 minutes of the film is no help what so ever. Still, there are some mesmerising sequences, not least of those being the air attack to the soundtrack of "Ride of the Valkyries". The photography is also gorgeous.
-
-
MattC.Sep 30, 200610A perfect ten. One of the greatest movies of all time is now longer and even more surreal. I can see why many people would find the original to be better, but I think this gives us more of what was already great.
-
-
AndyK.Jan 20, 200710Reminds us that cinema can truly be literary. A masterwork made much better!
-
-
DoyleH.Jun 24, 200710I was only disappointed that the movie ended. I could have watched hours more. The added scenes were all outstanding especially the additional Kilgore material. Even more than Platoon, it sums up my own Vietnam experience. Now where's Hearts of Darkness?
-
-
MichaelF.Aug 11, 200110This is SO much better than the original! This version is never boring even though its 195 minutes! Everything you want more of is in this. PERFECT! This is now in my top 5, not Apocalypse Now, but Apocalypse Now REDUX!

PatC.Dec 19, 20038Sure I'll give it an 8. I might have liked the new scenes in the original edited version, which by the way is a 10.

-
ChimpDec 28, 20046I like war movies usually but this one disturbed me unlike the other ones. Very, very weird-but well made. I cant say if this its realistic or not (i'm 15, obviously never was in Vietnam), but it depicts Vietnam as literally hell on earth....a much more brutal, disgusting vision than that in Platoon or other Vietnam movies.
-
-
Jan 7, 20116It is the best Vietnam movie. But no war movie which presents only war facts and no morality apart of the 'who won is the best' has nothing worth to see.
-
Oct 19, 201110Best film ever... Wonderful depiction of human psyche transmitted by making you feel the message.
-
Nov 1, 201110A cinematic triumph in every way, excellent writing, superb cast and wonderfully acted (Sheen, Brando and Duvall and all excellent) I've only recently watched this for the first time as I purchased the collector's edition blu ray and haven't yet watched Redux, but the original is the best war film I have ever seen, and it has firmly put itself in my top 10 all time favourite movies
-
Oct 31, 2011this movie is released in August 3, 2001. Are they REALIZE that's the second year of 21st century? why would they still used 1979 Vietnam war epic as the film theme and without alternating 'em.

100Such gorgeous explosions, such a terrible vision, such an amazing work of art. Go. Now.
-
100One of the great films of all time. It shames modern Hollywood's timidity. To watch it is to feel yourself lifted up to the heights where the cinema can take you, but so rarely does.
-
90Better in certain ways than the original "Apocalypse Now," though the flaws are also magnified.
