A non-stop laugh riot. Brillant satire. It would be nice if the sequals would return the simple formula that works so well in this original Austin Powers: Two relics of the '60s who are hopelessly out of touch with the late '90s. We don't need Austin and Evil traveling back in time because they are much funnier to watch trying to get up to speed with the present. Right up there with Airplane and Naked Gun. Expand

The sexual jokes in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" will provide you a new eyesight of comedy...the naked way. However, that's the only bland jokes the movie pertains to have.

This film is quite humourous. I believe everyone at one point in their lives should see this hilarious film.

I'm finding that the users rating is much closer to being accurate than the critics ratings. This movie was funny. The scene with Tom Arnold in the bathroom is classic comedy. I laughed so hard I cried.

Maybe it doesn't have as much memorable jokes as the second one, but this is definitely my favorite Austin Powers. Doesn't have the Mini-Me, Fat B@stard, or the other great characters, but it makes up for that with being a truly great comedy.

It's funny. That's pretty much where it begins and ends: it doesn't push the cinematic envelope, it won't change the world, but it may just kill you with laughter. Alright, the humour's childish, but it's so well executed - Myers never stops at one laugh. The Swedish Made Penis Englarger Pump sequence is absolute genius, because you get a feeder line, then a punchline...then ANOTHER punchline, and another, and another...it doesn't stop! It just...keeps...GOING! The almost heroic ability to run with every pass (and improvise like it's going out of fashion) in this way makes Austin Powers: IM of M something of a minor comedy classic. The other two aren't comedy classics so much (I have a low Fat Bastard threshold) but are still damn funny. If you're feeling low, and don't mind a little childish humour, this'll help. Expand

It's not laugh out loud hillarious throughout, but there are certainly some priceless moments throughout.

Overall this film is a must-see spoof that will cause you to laugh out loud and cringe at the same time. It represents the sixties culture and how much different events are nowadays in a fully satisfying way.

This first AP is the weakest of the trilogy. That's odd; it's the last thing you would have thought possible when it first came out! There are certainly plenty of funny moments in the film...but it's in these where it's different to the sequels...Int'l Man Of Mystery seems more structured, like a play, set out in Acts 1,2,3, and accordingly the gags flow with an orchestrated rhythm. Funny though the jokes are, it's this 'construction' that ultimately detracts from the film, detracts from the loose, flippant insanity that the two sequels provided. Sure, they are structured as well, but you couldn't tell as much as with this one. The sequels have an added zaniness that makes you laugh even when Myers didn't ask you to. The whole films are just naturally funny, not just the set gags. Myers has never changed his Powers character but he fits into his clothes better these days. If you watch this one first (as no doubt you are intended to) you won't be disappointed; but, watch the others first (especially Spy Who Shagged..) and I'd say you will be! Expand

Funnier, sharper and less reliant on crudness than the sequals. Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery is unrelenting in its assault of priceless gags.

A fastidious movie, remarkably hilarious. The dialogue is ideal, and the acting is tremendous. Shag it to me baby!

Non stop laughs. And a slap at James Bond movies of the old days. Some things go a little crude and over the top, though.

If Austin Powers contains your sort of humour, which it does in my case, this is the most fun you'll ever have with any movie. Must-watch for everybody who loves comedy.

Not nearly as funny as the trailers made it out to be. There's good material here don't get me wrong i just feel that Mike Myers' characters stretch thin in a full movie format, maybe in an 5 minute SNL skit these characters would materialize better.

With great performances by Mike Myers and a lot of funny moments, this is a great comedy. It does have a few moments where it doesn't make sense though.

Alotta **** Need I say more? The first film in the Austin Powers series, "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" sets the tone in a amusingly camp and whimsical way for the preceding sequels. Mike Myers does what Eddie Murphy largely failed to do in "The Nutty Professor" or "Norbit" - that being portraying multiple characters who both DON'T outshine the other and provide equal amount of laughs. Although there are a lot of references to 1960 spy flicks (namely the Bond pictures) anybody who enjoys a good comedy will adore this movie. Expand

It was rather corny at times but it was a good parody and Mike Myers played his role perfectly. It was quite hilarious as well and well worth the watch.

Myers has hit upon a genuinely original schtick, and that fact alone is immeasurably groovy.
  3. What's really fun about this silly but spirited comedy isn't just the ribbing of "swinging London" fashion and social attitudes but the use of the compulsive zooms and split-screen mosaics of commercial movies of the 60s.
