The film, like Walker’s trek, occasionally feels like a bit of a slog to those unexposed to the folklore, but it makes some interesting observations in regard to the pursuit of fact over fiction.
There might be a glimmer of a theme in the film concerning faith, but it all drowns in too many tangents and dull minutiae. Recommended for die-hard fans only, Australia's Lost Gold is not worth its weight in much of anything.

You might think so after seeing Australia’s Lost Gold, a fabulous take on an ancient legend that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Between the fascinating diary entries by Harold Lasseter and Luke, the filmmaker’s, curious spirit, this movie is perfect for a Friday night in.

In the central Australian desert, one man's legacy lives on like the sand on the hills and the bones of creatures long gone. That man is Harold Lasseter. Harold discovered ("supposedly") a reef of gold in central Australia worth billions. No one believed him, and he died before the gold could be found. His son, Bob, never knew his father; he left when he was 6 years old, never to be seen again. Even so, Harold left a mark on his son that would shape his entire life. Bob has spent years trying to find that elusive gold in order to clear his father's name. Director Luke Walker joins him in that quest in Australia's Lost Gold. The story has surprises at every turn; I found myself enthralled in the mystery of that long, lost gold. Highly recommend for anyone that loves adventure.

Australia’s Lost Gold is a must-see! Award nominated director Luke Walker delivers another movie hit with this one. This film goes above and beyond the expectations set for an average documentary. It’s an intriguing storyline with Australian history, culture, and action all in one. If you’re looking for something different, I suggest watching this film ASAP!

This was a truly inspiring documentary that really captivates the viewer with its moving story of redemption. Australia’s lost gold is set in the beautiful yet harsh Australian outback, and the film does an incredible job in story telling as well as cinematography. The real life characters and its true story bring the movie together to make one of the greatest movies of the year.

Independent movies are not films that I watch regularly, but I would make the time to watch Australia’s Lost Gold a second time. This movie captures the power of determination and inspires the audience. Bob Lasseter’s trek to find the mother lode of gold since the 1930s is a story like no other. The director finds a way to blend animation with real visuals in a way that I have never seen before. Australia’s Lost Gold is a film that everyone can enjoy, I highly recommend seeing it!
