• Starring: Alex Pettyfer, Mary-Kate Olsen, Vanessa Hudgens
  • Summary: Kyle Kingson has it all – looks, intelligence, wealth and opportunity – and a wicked cruel streak. Prone to mocking and humiliating "aggressively unattractive" classmates, he zeroes in on Goth classmate Kendra, inviting her to the school’s extravagant environmental bash. Kendra accepts, and, true to form, Kyle blows her off in a particularly savage fashion. She retaliates by casting a spell that physically transforms him into everything he despises. Enraged by his horrible and unrecognizable appearance he confronts Kendra and learns that the only solution to the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is – a task he considers impossible. I liked this movie, maybe more than I should have, and would be happy to see anything this director wants to do next.

Beastly manages to show you all the ways it might have worked by missing every available mark, sometimes by the gaping expanse between Alex Pettyfer's ears, sometimes only by the feline curl of Vanessa Hudgens' smile.

The school freak, played by Mary-Kate Olsen, misses a chance to really have some fun as this story's wicked witch.

It's a movie you want to like, but the dialogue is often weak and the story line had too many implausible moments. The performances by Lisa Gay Hamilton and Neil Patrick Harris were timely and engaging and also the freshest parts of the story. But, ultimately, you end up wishing the story for the two main characters Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens was stronger and bolder and thus altogether different. Expand

Too bad the production did not hire a writer or an actor for this piece of garbage, otherwise it may have had potential. The characters had the depth of a wading pool, and dialogue that was not up to par for a high school play. However, if you thought the Justin Biber movie was "OMGOMGOMG best movie ever", you will probably like this. Expand
