Disappointed. Very disappointed. It's been ten years since a film with a predominantly American-Asian cast had such a high profile. Margaret Cho's "All-American Girl" might've killed the headway "The Joy Luck Club" made for Disappointed. Very disappointed. It's been ten years since a film with a predominantly American-Asian cast had such a high profile. Margaret Cho's "All-American Girl" might've killed the headway "The Joy Luck Club" made for Asian actors who aren't kung fu fightin'. Give me the weepy mothers and daughters over these nihilistic bunch of bored teenagers. "Better Luck Tomorrow" is basically a teen movie with violence. First you're bored by the sight of students studying and going to a winter formal, and then you're appalled than an Asian director would want to transform honor students into resevoir dogs. But still, it's fascinating to see Asians in the foreground while reducing the White people to tokenism in an American film. The soundtrack has been roundly criticized, but it does have the effect of not drawing attention to the characters' ethnicity. Catch Keiko Agena on "Gilmore Girls". It's the same agenda (the portrayal of an Asian character as a person that's not ethnic-specific) with better ramifications for actors who might know the significance of a swan feather. Expand
