Best movie I have seen in a long time. Beautifully acted and photographed. A love story. Shows the internal conflicts of people adapting to new opportunities. Puts abstract values we take for granted into a context where we can see their personal importance with renewed clarity.

Excellent movie. Highly recommended. Great story, gripping main character, excellent acting and beautiful scenery. One of those movies that you have no idea if it's heading towards heartbreaking tragedy or poetic justice.

  1. Self-discovery always comes with a cost, and in Bliss the price is a great one. It is mesmerizing to watch it unfold in the lives of these two young people.
  2. The result is infotainment dressed up as an art flick. Turkish society is fascinatingly complex and its East/West tensions give rise not to easy allegories but to hard ambiguities. To explore that truth, read any novel by Orhan Pamuk. To escape it, watch Bliss.
  3. Though calling out the abominable oppression of women, even in a vehicle as didactic as Bliss, serves at least some redeemable purpose.
