DanoB.Mar 10, 20066The thing is its a movie, not a tv special. movies are suposed to bring smoething to the table, and block party did not do this. The music was good, and i'm a really big fan of mos def, but as a movie it was a waste of time. not even rental quallity. They should just show this on like UPN during black histroy month.

AdamMar 3, 200610A beautiful movie! Funny as hell but also suprisingly moving and inspiring--I'm so glad Dave is back!

-
DkraMar 4, 200610The undeniable talent of Chappelle, Mos Def, and other artists is on full display in this movie. I

MattMar 7, 200610This movie was stelar. The music was amazing and it was all around a very touching and inspiring movie.

AlecB.Jun 14, 20060dont get me wrong,i think dave chappelle is one of the funniest comedians ever but this movie sucked so bad that i walked right out of the theater and got a refund.

JoeJul 7, 20069Very impressive, wonderfully presented. Dave was extremely funny, and the music was outstanding.

SpongeeeK.Mar 12, 20069Solid Film but I dont know where people are coming up with the whole inspiring, moving, etc. adjectives for this film. Its almost like watching Dave's home video of the event. I dont think there's a true greater purpose other than to make you laugh and enjoy good music.

JDMar 26, 200610Dave rocks, this movie shows that he is not only funny, but a humanitarian..paying equal homage to celebrities, kids, and regular folks.

StephenMar 4, 200610Might possibly be the feel-good film of the year.

ClosMar 8, 200610This movie is a true social statement and a real pleasure to watch (and listen to).

KraigC.Jun 24, 20065Muscial performances were just so-so. The Fugees were a big dissappointment. And Chappelle is just not very funny, which was a big dissappointment.

KurtT.Jul 21, 200610I must say, I really loved watching this film. Probably one of the best documentary films of this year.

AndrewetcAug 13, 20085This was 10/10 for me, but this would be 0/10 if you didn't like the music. I fucking loved this. If you are fans of these guys, you will be fucking blown away by who shows up at the end, it was about the most exciting thing I saw all year in film. If you aren't, you won't give two shits about this. Skip this if you don't like Hip Hop or these artists, watch it if you do.

SeanS.Mar 15, 20069Hilarious dave + great music = good Movie. If you go into this thinking it's going to be a 1:30 stand up special your not too far off. It's a stand up special with great music and even better laughs.

KevinE.Mar 15, 20062Ugh. The only reviewer who had it anywhere near right is Kyle Smith from the New York Post. If you're not a fan of the music and you don't think Chapelle is genius, this is a complete waste of your life. Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the music, and think Chapelle is tedious at best. I want my life back.

RachelI.Mar 22, 20069Heart-warming, really. Movie's tone is dead-on and really quite sweet.

DaveS.Jul 18, 20060I generally agree with metacritic ratings but this movie was awful, it is a BET concert that is not even that good, just watch tv at 3 am and you see the same thing. not a single joke worth laughing to.

80A heady spirit of spontaneity permeates the proceedings, suggesting the entire pic, much like the concert it documents, was conceived, planned and completed in a single burst of creative enthusiasm.
-
This picture remains faithful to the underlying affability of both Chappelle and Gondry, orchestrating a feel-good homestyle vibe that, while peppered with moments of sly political commentary, never harshes its own, slightly bittersweet mellow.
-
83Block Party is largely a giant love-fest, which is fitting given the staggering amount of simpatico musical and comic talent on display, though some conflict surfaces nevertheless.
