It's nothing less than an examination of the very meaning of family.
  2. The result is a remarkably beguiling documentary, on a number of levels.

Shiva's voice-over narration and the commentary from academics (all in English) are spiked with gender-studies jargon but illuminate the history of this peculiar underclass, over 1.3 million strong, which is beginning to gather political power.
  4. The film offers a concise history of hijras, who used to officiate at births, weddings and other religious rituals.
  5. A short film with a unique subject matter. But you won't soon forget its people, its places or its sad, surprising revelations about all the sexes.
