This one was a great thriller. Even though you knew something was going to happen, it still scared the daylights out of you. I dont understand all the negativity around this movie from critics. I would definitely recommend this one.

The most half assed attempt to make a scary movie...EVER. This movie is below Battlefield Earth, and I didnt think that was possible.

This is easily the scariest movie ever; if of course the only other movie you've ever seen stars the Olsen twins. It is impossible to be scared by this movie. It had potential; I'll give you that, if only the people who made the trailer would have made the actual movie. I've seen a lot of bad movies, especially bad "horror" movies, and this one is right down there with Cabin Fever and Exorcist 4. Embarrassingly Awful! Expand

[***SPOILERS***] Any one who gave this movie over a 3 needs to rethink a few things. I went into this movie thinkin this movie had potential from watching the trailer. Then the movie started and i wanted to leave. The only reason i didnt leave was because it was hilarious to watch ppl scream at parts that wernt even scary. The person next to me almost killed my hand but who cares back to the worst movie ever. Well the scary parts always happened the same way. The music always stopped right before the scary parts came. So I knew when anything was going to happen. I was never actually scared at any point in the movie. I actually saw it as more of a comedy. I was laughing the whole time. Which in turn really pissed some ppl off. So I had a few things thrown at me that night. Yet in the movie the plot was very weak. When people very important to the main charecter die off he never even feels sad or anything. I mean his girlfriend dies in a bathtub in front of his eyes. I dunno bout u but i would be ballin my eyes out. Then the ending was the worst ending i have ever seen in a movie. He beats the crap out of the boogey man and then the movie is over. I mean who cares about the people who were killed in the movie. Lets jus end the movie and not even have a funeral for the people. This movie was complete crap. The best part of the movie was that my seat was very comfortable. I paid $8.30 to sit on a very comfortable seat. Expand

Until the final act, when the screenplay turns to mush and the screen becomes a mess of special effects, this is one of the scariest horror movies I've seen in a while -- or maybe it just seems that way after all the horrific films that have come out lately (Darkness, White Noise, Alone in the Dark, Hide & Seek, etc.).

Okay, Am I the ONLY one that realizes that Mr. 7th Heaven CANNOT act! Barry Watson can no longer rely on being a "cute" teen. He needs to take some "freaking" acting lessons so that people don't waste their money renting a movie that he is in. Regarding the movie, oh yeah, it suuuucked. why? Cause Watson stunk up the screen. The movie would have still sucked eggs but at least I wouldn't have had to look at Barry Watson's stupid blank stare that he seems to do. Save your money folks! After all the reviews here I was expecting this to be terrible, but I really enjoyed it - it had some less-than-satisfying moments, but overall was a lot of fun.

This movie was creepy. I jumped 11 times and screamed once!! i was too scared to out my feet on the floor so i put them on the seat in front of me suffocating the people lol. This movie creates major chills, but it is mainly scary because your suspense gets built up really high and then the music goes BOOM!!! suddenly making you jump, the boogeyman was really ugly by the way i'm a plastic surgeon specialists and i'll tell ya something like that could definitely use some. I really wish i could rate this movie (if you can even call it that) a negative score. This is the most retarded piece of crap i have ever seen. I can tell the plot of the movie in one sentence, "This guy has to beat the boogeyman, and there is also a bunch of dumb, confusing, pointless crap." I would rather have the boogeyman haunt me for the rest of my life than to watch this ever again. A truer version of hell I have never known. Expand

This movie was one of the worst I've seen lately. Not the scariest movie ever as some critics say. I wouldn't waste my money renting this one again. The effects were not good at all and the movie was slow and boring. The only part that was good was when it ended. Can anyone make a scary movie that actually scares you?

Good movie. Not scary, but i bet if these people tried a bit harder they could make a scary movie, because the idea was fun, and it was eerie, just not scary. Pretty dang fun.

I think zero isn't even enough for this boogeman. I guess it may works as a comic book rather than a movie, the worst movie ever.

Made no sense, wasn't the least bit scary, poorly done cgi, bad acting...in short it had all the makings of a poor movie. I only gave it a one cause there were people in it.

This movie is something of an underrated film in the horror genre, it was actually much, much, much better than I thought. You see I don't usually watch PG-13 horror due to the fact that it is usually is bland , cheesy, contrived, over rated and over hyped. This film was none of those, Boogeyman, or as I like to call it The Boogeyman is a very suspenseful, dark and foreboding Psychological horror thriller. This film was very good for five of reasons. 1) It didn't use an abundant of CGI or gore to tell it' story. 2) it thought out it's story and characters reasonable well. 3). 4) it use old school techniques(which I love more than the new way of horror story telling .) and it uses it so well to bring out the very dark and scary nature of the legend of the monstrous Boogeyman. 5) It pulls no punches when it comes to telling horror, it get's in your head and just won't leave even after the film is over. Boogeyman wasn't Halloween(1978) or Dracula(1931) scary, but it was scary none the less. It's style and means of scaring you were conventional and old school and that was something that shocked me. You don't see that in a modern horror film. And that makes this film a stand out among them; I mean I've seen Rob Zombie's Halloween( I call it suckloween), I've seen Turistas( I call it dumbristas) but this is the first film since Secret Window that I'm proud to call a good horror movie. Barry Watson( You may know him as Jessica Beil's boyfriend on 7th Heaven.) plays a distraught and disturbed young man who has to come to terms with the childhood fear that has afflicted him all his life.He plays this part relatively well and does good in what he is suppose to do. Emily Deschanel was alright, she wasn't horrible but she wasn't good either. She kind of lags in the the emotional depth department and made her kind of a drag to watch. But besides that they both hold up nicely in this. Boogeyman is not an oscar worthy film but what it is is a great scare machine that doesn't quit from the opening scene until the closing, and it delivers an effected psychological look into the paranoiac fear that most people have of The Bogeyman and the dark. All in all Boogeyman wasn't a bad film and if your kind you will see it as well. It isn't a gore machine like you would expect, or like but it is a very effective movie in it's own right. Boogeyman gives you one wild and nightmarish ride for your money and I can promise you. You won't be disappointed with the outcome. All in all Boogeyman is one door you do want to open. Expand

This movie has a terrific opening sequence, as fun to watch as any good recent horror movie. Unfortunately the remainder of the film fails to live up to this with an absoultely by-the-numbers and predictable screenplay and showy direction that leads nowhere. Barry Watson is so impassive and bland he makes Keanu Revees look like Paul Giamatti. Watson pretty much has the same expression on his face the entire duration of the film, and by the end, after the script has taken us thru little dead girls and demon spirits from hell and dark small closets and things popping out of nowhere, you're pretty much too bored to care. I was sitting in a comfortable seat with chilling air conditioning for 88 minutes. I started to thinking about what I have to do tomorrow, and if should go to sleep early tonight. "At least I'm here for free", I said to myself, as I noticed that there is a "scary" movie running in front of my face. What the hell was this movie? OK I got it. You saw Hitchcock's "Psycho" and you were inspired, but why imitate in such a degrading way elements from that masterpiece to create such a bad movie. Something exciting and original could have been used in "Boogeyman", and for a moment there I thought that there might be something intelligent coming out of this film. I talking about the scene where he passes through closets as if they were portals in space and time, but alas, it was nothing. I give it 5 out of 10, and just because I had a good day. Expand

If you can't spell "bogeyman," you shouldn't make movies about him.
  3. A film willing to cheat whatever way necessary to scare you... The good news is that once you leave the theatre, you'll never think of Boogeyman again.
