The jokes are not always consistent but highly effective when they strike.

A terminally quirky indie dramedy, Bottled Up risks trivializing prescription drug abuse in service of a trite middle-age romance.

The second film from Enid Zentelis (“Evergreen”) comes across as a heavy-handed message movie. And its presence in theaters can only be explained by the participation of Oscar-winning lead Melissa Leo.

While this low-budget effort seems to have its heart in the right place and features a sensitive, moving performance by Oscar winner Melissa Leo, it ultimately feels like a compendium of bizarre character quirks adding up to a barely coherent whole.

I found this film to be sensitive, funny and even optimistic in spite of its dealing with the issue of addiction and enablers. The characters, mother, daughter, young lover and environment activists, drug dealer, fat men getting nipple rings, and various doctors and others, are so true to life in a small town. Highly entertaining! Full Review »
