Brigsby Bear is easily the biggest surprise film of the year and is worth every laugh and tear that it brings.
Brigsby Bear is a sweet-natured picture with an undercurrent of prickly energy.

One of the BEST movies of 2017! What a huge surprise! A great story, with great developed characters. I found the story to be very emotional, each character acted like a real person. It shows how well thought out this movie was written. Go watch this movie!

The story is engaging and McCary provokes an emotional response with his careful and nuanced handling of the main character’s mindset and situation.
Gradually, the movie becomes a compassionate but constructive commentary on the danger of nostalgia — how it seduces us into sticking with worn-out pleasures at the expense of new experiences and challenges.
“Brigsby” never ventures into the caustic simply for the sake of comedy. These days, that’s refreshing. There aren’t many movies that value sweetness over cynicism.
The big finale never reaches "Chuck & Buck" levels of therapeutic catharsis, because Mooney hasn’t really let us see James’ pain, only his gushy wide-eyed innocence, his lovability.
Spunky yet maudlin, grim yet heartwarming, the movie—written by Mooney and Kevin Costello—is mainly a batch of hollow gestures.
One of the most creative, thoughtfully written comedy-dramas in recent years. Its quirky but touching narrative, superb script and fine performances make this offbeat release a captivating piece of filmmaking from start to finish. And, the closer you pay attention to this one, the more you'll see, a truly gratifying moviegoing experience. Hooray for Brigsby!

This movie is HILARIOUS!!!!! Kyle Mooney is so believable and sharp he makes this movie. The story is extremely original loaded with witty humor. The ending was not what I was hoping for a bit to feel good for what was otherwise a great comedy

Who knew that a film about a kidnapping could ever be so damn wholesome, creative and so cute and quirky. Easily one of the most, strangely, lighthearted films i've seen in awhile. The film oozes with charm and pure, deadpan, wit. I loved it. Can't wait too see what else the directer decides to do!!!

Set away your preconceived notions about SNL movies; this is a nice movie that is well worth seeing. A deliriously endearing tale of James, a pampered manchild making his first steps in the real world with the aid of his boyhood obsession with VCRs, is written by and stars current TV regular Kyle Mooney.

Kyle Mooney is best known for his peculiar videos on SNL. Now, he's starring in his own peculiar movie as a man who discovers the real world after 25 years of pleasurable captivity. His obsession with a children's TV character carries over into his new life and the comedy is supposed to come from the gentle fish out of water tropes. Although occasionally mildly amusing, most of the comedy is simply stupid. To make matters dumber, the logic of this reality is flawed from the beginning and the continued absurdities strain credibility. To make matters worse, the attempts at sweet charms are equally bland. This project feels custom made for Charlie Kaufman, but first-time feature director Dave McCary (and director of video segments for SNL) can't master the deadpan humor that's needed to pull it off.
