While I can see some of the detractors points about the flaws in this movie, the people who say it is trash just do not GET IT. Grab a clue, people.

Absolutely brilliant, frightening, and authentic. The performances were flawless and fearless. As a parent, this film scares the hell out of me, because it simply lays it out without any easy answers. What made these kids so empty, so amoral, so listless? The film is truly thought provoking and the photography, although somewhat voyeuristic and leering, and the soundtrack are right on.

The first time I watched this movie I was so into it I thought I was going to throw up when the murder occured. I haven't ever felt a movie before but this one got to me. I think mostly because it was true and how stupid those kids were. "Lets go get some pizza and tell the waitress we're going to kill someone". They were busted before they even killed him. The cast was perfect and Larry Clack is brilliant. One of the best movies I've ever seen. Expand

As a personal acquaintance of both Bobby Kent and Marty Puccio, I must say the movie bears even less resemblance to the truth than the book (purportedly a "true" story) with its outright fabrications and lies. Marty certainly did not have a younger brother and surely did not smoke the way he was portrayed. The SWAT-like scene at the end did little justice to a person who voluntarily turned himself in to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The only value of the movie is entertainment, especially for people interested in pornography and pederasty. Expand

The movie was OK but if you're looking for facts read the court documents. The A&E documentary isn't too bad either.

Rather than use shiny looks from Beverly Hills 90210, this film sought to be authentic. In some ways it was overly sympathetic to the killers, but it was an engrossing story and if one didn't know some of the additional details of the case, one would have more empathy for the killers. The acting was at the least authentic, human to the core. It didn't attempt to be superficial, but rather dove right in. All in all a good show. Expand

An overall great movie, though perhaps with a bit too much nudity throughout it. Not to say that because of that it was bad, but the fact tha for quite a bit of the movie people were naked doesn't help enrich the movie's effectiveness. Such as in the scene near the end of the movie where Lisa is talking on the phone she is topless, which doesn't really contribute to the effect of the movie. Perhaps also the fact that the movie is made for entertainment yet is based upon the true story of an incident so grim as it is makes the movie even better by the way that it gives a unique perspective while shedding light on the themes which surround the movie, because they are universal, even if not usually to such a great degree. Once again, an all in all great movie. Expand

I can remember quite clearly when this event occured, just a mile or two from my parents house. At the time it didnt seem so exceptional because there were apparently many gang style killings and husband/and/or wife killings. But still the story was compelling because these kids seemed so ordinary, so much like a bunch of high-school kids on a dare. And most of them had no gang memberships. Was is the envirnoment of too much sun, fun, and nothing else? Or inadequate education, skimpy cultural outlets. and not much faith in the future? The true characters as I understood them Bobby was a overbearing and possesive control freak, Marti a much smaller punk wanna-be. Expand

While it's true that Bully resembles some of the nitty gritty stuff of angsts working class teens, the myriad of flaws tip the scales and make the movie just awful. I expected MUCH better acting from Brad Renfro, who I'm usually a huge fan of. If someone had told me that this film was made by a couple of freshman college film students, I'd believe it unquestioningly. Creepy, often dull, and if it makes any sense, this movie is just plain senselessly mean. No chemistry between characters, no suspense, no point. Expand

Good film, although violent the story has been portrayed in a good way, bit unrealistic but you watch movies to be entertained and although it was violent, it still sent across the point of bullying.

As a documentary, it is a nice film. The story itself is simply meaningless and repetitive, a story that has been told many times in many ways. Bully just does not stand out among them.

The movie was OK, but its not all true. Marty didnt dance in gay clubs. All that was fabricated. This I know from corresponding with Marty myself. Makes for a good movie but as a real life story, they should have said "loosely based on..."

I feel this movie was pretty wacked. It made you think, that there are people out there who are capable of killing someone just because they can't take thier abuse.

Pretty good, VERY disturbing movie. Though the literary license adds/omits various realities, and many people criticize the film for this...one cannot deny how close to true this scenario is.

I followed the court case and i feel although the characters might not have been portrayed as they looked and for the most part as they felt. Larry Clark did a wonderful job making them real. Every actor and actress in that movie was amazing. I am sorry to see so called "movie critics" cant see that

This movie was brilliantly written and filmed. The story is disturbing, but the portrayal of teenagers growing up in a small suburban town is fascinating. This is by far one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Only the very jaded or very sheltered could not appreciate the artistic merit of this film. From the very first scene which is reminiscent of Gus Van Sant's "My Own Private Idaho," the film is a shocking wake-up call and warning about the extent to where suburban family neglect can lead.

First of all people need to get off their high horse about this movie, whether you knew Bobby Kent and Martin Puccio or not, the phrase "Based on a True Story" means that they improvised on the telling of the story. Not every bit of information has to be carved in stone fact. So whether he did or didn't smoke that much, or did or didn't have a little brother is beside the point, what is the point is that they showed what he went through and why he did what he did, and I mind you that it is well documented in his court files that Marty Puccio was not the origional consipiritor, so if you want to argue that too take it up with the DA. All around this was a very good movie. Expand

The story of Jim Schurze is a wonderfull pretext for Clark to shoot a movie filled with pornography and nudity. The historical corectness isn't so interisting for the producer sex and violence sells that's more important. I recommend this movie to all pederasts, voyeurs and especially to the homosexuall fans of Brad Renfro... (A movie about criminal kids made by criminal directors (Clark) and performed by criminal actors (Renfro).) Expand

A loose, immoral film, both nasty and innocent at the same time. I don't know if I agree with Clark's directorial style (they'll be arguing that one until the end of time!) but it's effective and certainly provokes response and reaction, and I suppose that's the point. The "kids" in this film act superbly, really focusing on their characters and making them real. The unfortunate thing is that none of them are really likeable! But then, it's not really a likeable story either! Based on a true story, it's one of neglect, misdirection, misunderstanding and, I suppose, a little evil. What the film really succeeds at is depicting teenagers as they really are, showing their real sides, their real needs, their real desires, and what can really happen when they go astray. Expand

I still find this story fascinating and disturbing. The movie did give some gratuitous "clark" shots, but face up; some teens drink, do drugs and have sex. South Florida has been a decadent wonderland since Jackie Gleason owned Miami Beach. Factor in our greed-driven economy which forces a two-parent income and then wonder why there is no teen supervision. The gloss of the movie combined with the grit of the true story makes this flick get your attention! Expand

I thought that this movie was very good. Even though some of the parts were cut out that needed to be, such as the gay man they picked up in the club, even though the director only showed a small part of him. You had to figure out how they came in contact with him and what his relationship was to Bobby and Marty. They just wrote him out. But the acting was good, the emotions were there except for Lisa, she just looked lost most of the time. And the book depicted her to be overweight and lonely. But in the movie she was small and skinny. Expand

  1. Like the recent "Baise-moi," Bully is a whole lot of shock and titillation trying to pretend it's saying something. Unlike the French import, however, there's no awareness of its own absurdity, nor anything for the audience to care about in the slightest.
  2. 20
The script is worse than slack, and despite its lurid premise, Bully doesn't have "Kids" tabloid immediacy.
  3. Clark denies his audience the catharsis, resolution and renewal of classical tragedy. The film reduces its viewers to helplessness, and I'm not sure that's its intent.
