Bear Cub casually pulls off an amazing feat--combining innocent childhood nostalgia and graphic sexuality.
The audience gets all of the love, with none of the guilt. It's enough to give you faith in family dramas again.
Moves deftly from a wry and affectionate father-son bonding comedy to wrenching drama.
At the end, Bear Cub does have a brush with sentimentality. But by then, its integrity and low-key truthfulness has been certified in a dozen different ways.
Pedro is what a friend of mine calls a ''macho Iberico," which refers to a certain type of cocky, insensitive Spanish man.
Much smarter than the average comedy.
If you're thinking of taking the kids to Bear Cub because the title sounds like something they'd enjoy -- don't!
