Underrated by international critics, "Carandiru" delivers a very strong and difficult to digest film, not because of its violence or its heavy content (which is intense), but precisely because of the human portrait of incarcerated people who sealed their destiny through mistaken decisions that they took on life and they cost a huge price (what doesn't mean their crimes and errors should be minimized).

Babenco's kindly, concerned eye seeks out the humanity in even the worst of his characters, and by the time he re-creates the massacre, with shocking power and force, one has been equally captivated and appalled at the world he shows. The result is one of the richest prison movies in years.

Narrado desde la perspectiva del médico de planta, la historia de la difícil convivencia que imperaba dentro de una las prisiones más grandes de América Latina, y lo que propició un motín y una represión sangrienta. De lo mejor del cine brasileño.

Um dos melhores filmes brasileiros já feito. Rodrigo Santoro, Caio Blat, Wagner Moura são ótimos atores. P.S. pena que o filme é dirigido por um argentino. (Brincadeiras a parte, vale a pena assistir).
