Fitfully entertaining, with some grabby trial scenes, the film struggles to find a proper, engaging focus.
There’s a soothing Altmanesque drift about this French drama.
Vincent’s calm, almost strenuously low-key film never gathers enough emotional momentum to become a fully dimensional romance — which might be its poignant intention.
The film’s main problem is that it can’t decide what it wants to be and ends up not having enough time to develop anything in any depth.
Luchini’s excellent, but this is guilty of gross tonal uncertainty.
