• Summary: CSA: The Confederate States of America, through the eyes of a faux documentary, takes a look at an America where the South won the Civil War. Supposedly produced by a British broadcasting company, the feature film is presented as a production being shown, controversially, for the first time on television in the States. (IFC Films) Expand

C.S.A. isn't subtle, but its undisguised indignation places it in the same bold polemical tradition as Peter Watkins' incendiary "Punishment Park" (1971), that nightmarish slice of speculative sci-fi about government-sanctioned manhunts for hippies and dissidents.

This is a clever premise stretched perhaps a little too far.

Absorbing and provocative film with a thoughtful, cutting sense of humor. With the exception of JFK, I'd say the director does a great job constructing a plausible parallel history that incorporates actual historical figures. Should we just be happy the South lost? Or did the USA post-1865 take on more aspects of the CSA than most of us care to admit? Expand

Feels like an exploitation of exploitation in the guise of provoking thought. Plays for laughs what a documentary would reveal as unlaughable.
