Absolutely Hilarious. Laugh Out loud comedy. yet it deserves no more than 5/10 Why? well for comedy it gets 10/10 For story and how good the film is it gets 1/10 thats 5.5/10 so i rounded down as story is more important the humor

This movie is NOT FUNNY. It will get a few laughs, but mainly it simply has various reenactments of scenes from other, much more funny movies. Not worth the time or money. If you want some laughs, I think Big Mommas House 2 was hilarious.

I can't believe how this turned out after viewing the ultra-promising trailer. Alyson Hannigan was a complete waste of a character...and the David Spade look-alike (SORRY...'Adam Campbell') was a terrible waste of bad material. On top of that...the disjointed narrative was a poor excuse even by spoof standards. I love shows like Naked Gun and Scary Movie. This show can';t smell Leslie NIelson's jock. Only positive...Eddie's black Greek man. Expand

I usually seem to agree with the general consensus on comedies, but this time I think the critics are way off. They exaggerate the "gross-out humor" and obvious and unfunny parodies, and disregard the dry wit that intelligent people like myself wll find amusing. This is really an arthouse comedy packaged as a formulaic spoof movie. Go see it, and hopefully you get it. If you don't, then there's no reason to try to explain it's genius to you. Expand

I don't care what the critics say, I loved this movie!! It was very funny for a spoof movie, but I don't know what all the haters expected, it IS a spoof movie so of course it'd be kind of dumb. Which is was, but in a good, hilarious way. Date Movie is definitely one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while.

Starts out with a cat scat scene and the move goes the same way as the rest of the waste. Down the toilet. A must walk out film. I felt bad that I wasn't the first one to leave the theater. Walking out later was just a copy cat movement. (No pun intended.)

I do enjoy wacky comedies like Scary Movie and Teen Movie so I was looking forward to Date Movie. I turned it off within the first 25 minutes and never looked back. After the first 5 minutes of excusing the lame opening in hopes of some outrageous humor to come, you realize quickly that you are in for mental torture-literally.

I have had root canals that were more enjoyable than this piece of crap. I have to admit that I enjoyed the scary movie films, but this... This is just eighty minutes of stupid crap that spoof movies scene after scene. The filmmakers don't even make any attempt to connect the scenes by story. It just drags on, scene after scene, thinking it's funny, but it really isn't. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this idiotic eightt-minute bore-fest. There are much more productive and entertaining things you can do other than watching "Date Movie". Like staring at a wall. And I am fourteen years old so forget the "age group" thing. Expand

I work for a movie theatre and just screened this movie before it opens tomorrow. I knew it was going to be really dumb comedy, but I thought it would atleast be a little funny. There is so much to parody in romantic comedies, but this is just abunch of scenes or even smaller tidbits of memorable movies that are collected and thrown together very poorly. Or worse, exaggerated for the sake of "comedy" to the point that they are just gross and stupid. If I wasn't on the clock, I would have been really mad at myself for staying up that late to watch such a stupid movie. Expand

This is more of a comment about the board on this movie. I love how 20th Century Fox had 3 cronies posting glowing reviews of this movie (10's for God's sake?!) complete with misspelled words and quotes you'd only see from blurbs from Larry King and Wireless Magazine (which is the current rent-a-quote "publication"). this was by no means a good movie. the acting was sub-par, and the spoofs were far too obvious to be really good. but, the movie did manage to squeeze off a few good (albeit breif) laughs, but some of the jokes were more disgusting than funny. plus, the overall tempo of the movie was FAR to slow for a comedy, and the better jokes were too far between to really carry the movie. if you can see it free, go ahead, but you should probably hold out for a rental, or maybe even skip this one alltogether. What a utter trainwreck of a movie. I'm usually generous with movies, too, but this deserves nothing. I laughed twice, I cringed the for the rest. I firmly believe that the movie itself was orginally a series of crappy, akward and cheesy parodies, and then linked them with the worst plot they could think of. Lord of the Rings? Star Wars? I could practically hear the director thinking to himself "It's okay that it doesn't fit in at all, is obviously forced, too brief or even just terrible, because the audience has most likely seen it before! And that's COMEDY! " Expand

This is an astoundingly bad movie. It's almost on a Nothing But Trouble-level. It is a film that seems to want to punish the audience for existing. I teach high school students a film course in comedy, and invariably there will be a contingent who complain about having to watch -- egads -- black-and-white movies or, worse, silent films. This operates on the mistaken assumption that sound + color = funny. It's the right of the uneducated to -- up to a certain point -- hold this blanket, underinformed preconception. I can only pray that Date Movie is the antidote. Here is a movie that is wall-to-wall body fluid/function jokes (in color and sound, no less) and there's not a laugh to be found. This is in opposition to Not Another Teen Movie or the tv show Reno: 911, which rely on all manner of fluid/function jokes and bother to make them funny. Maybe I can thank the makers of Date Movie for giving me a film that pretty much every one can point to and say, "See that so-called 'comedy' movie? The one called Date Movie? Yeah, that one. Not funny!" Perhaps we can show this film to anti-American terrorists, assuring them that we, too, find it horrendously unfunny. There IS common ground. Who knows? Maybe the makers of Date Movie will be awarded a Nobel for uniting the world against this one thing. This is a film that even the stellar cuteness of Alyson Hannigan, the endless charm of Fred Willard, and the inventive verve of Jennifer Coolidge can't save. Expand

Really, really bad! A couple of laughs surrounded by pointless, unfunny attempts at jokes. I didn't go into this movie with high expectations, I just thought it may provide some reasonable humour. I was wrong. Most of the humour was attempted through squeezing large zits, vomit scenes and unexplained silly behaviour in public. Not funny at all.

So, I've seen those previews for Date Movie, and I loved Not Another Teen Movie, which it is obviously similar to, and decided I had to see it. I went online on this site, and this thing got an 11 out of 100, which is one of the worst I've ever seen. But still, there were some movies I saw on here like Half Baked that had a 19 or something, and that was definitely a funny movie. Unfortunately, some people also put comments on here, and they said it sucked too. I started questioning seeing this movie, but my friend said, hey, maybe it's funny, let's check it out. No exaggeration, this was the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life. There was nothing funny in the movie, it tried to make spoofs of every movie possible and none of them were good, half of them just didn't even make sense how they fit into the movie. We walked out halfway through, we just couldn't take any more of it. DO NOT see this movie. And I mean don't even see it when it comes out on video, unless someone pays you...maybe. Expand

Is there anybody out there who DOESN'T love Alyson Hannigan [Ed- Easily my favoirte actress too]? I haven't seen any episodes of her prime time CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother (perhaps if I spent less time going to films like Date Movie I'd have more of a chance to) but her portrayal of shy computer genius Willow Rosenberg on Buffy the Vampire Slayer made that character the heart of the show; late in the series when she unleashes her grief-fueled Wiccan rage on the whole world after her lover is senselessly murdered, most of us were more concerned for HER fate than we were for that of Planet Earth. And Hannigan was nothing less than completely adorable and beguiling as the "band-camp girl" in the American Pie movie series, turning a potentially irritating character into a universally beloved one. (Her prospective-father-in-law/ daughter-in-law chat in American Wedding was surprisingly sweet and heartfelt, especially given that so much of the conversation dealt with Jason Biggs' pubic hair!) These were Hannigan's triumphs as an actress, and so is Date Movie, a would-be spoof of the most popular romantic comedies of the last couple decades, in which Hannigan, as the heroine, never ever mugs, winks or pushes the jokes, or does anything other than play the situations for total emotional reality regardless of their obvious absurdity (even when she's wearing a fat suit). This is the same approach Julie Hagerty took as the main stewardess in Airplane!, and it makes both actresses not only tremendously endearing but also very, very funny. Tony Cox, the little person with attitude who played Billy Bob Thornton's partner-in-crime in Bad Santa, brings us a twisted variant on Will Smith's matchmaker/ miracle worker in Hitch, and is a riot no matter what he does, and there are devastating, spot-on impersonations of Streisand and J. Lo by Jennifer Coolidge and Valery M. Ortiz. What's truly amazing about all these performers is how consistently amusing they manage to be given that they have virtually no material whatsoever to work with; Date Movie's fatal flaw is not only its inability to improve on famous movie sequences that were already funny to begin with (how DO you improve on Meg Ryan's legendary restaurant scene in When Harry Met Sally..., anyway?) but most of the time it doesn't even seem to be trying: the writers endeavor to mock My Best Friend's Wedding's terrific restaurant sing-along bit but are too lazy and slovenly to get the meter of Burt Bacharach's and Hal David's "I Say A Little Prayer" right or even to provide rhyming words! In all fairness, there's one amusing (if obvious) take on the most famous sequence in Say Anything, but the huge majority of the time the filmmakers just take the easiest, most obvious way out, going for the grossest, most disgusting low blow possible; I saw this with a largely adolescent audience and the "EEEWWWW's" outnumbered the genuine laughs at least 100:1. WKRP in Cincinnati creator Hugh Wilson, in rewriting the script for the first Police Academy movie, stated that he was certainly no prude, but a good solid joke is preferable to mindless tastelessness any day of the week. The fact that I have to resort to using Police Academy as a "how-to" counterpoint to Date Movie's "how-NOT-to" approach to comedy is bad enough, but being in the position of praising Hannigan's great work and that of some of her co-stars while simultaneously telling everyone I know to run as far and fast in the opposite direction of the movie that showcases said work is far worse. This movie should have never been released. This is by far the worst movie i've seen in years, i loved how they made fun of other movies but were really just making fun of themselves on how retarded the acting and camera work was. Do not buy or rent this movie..luckily i didnt thanks to HBO.

Quite possibly the worst thing I have ever watched - PERIOD. The humor is well... the word 'awful' isn't sufficient for express just how HORRIBLE it was. Theres a stage where the jokes are so bad, they're good. These jokes are so bad, they're good, then bad again, then good again, and then just PLAIN BAD. Why these morons keep making such awful movies is beyond me. It's like whacking yourself in the head with a spade repeatedly, sure, you can do it, BUT WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?! Expand

I'm not a big fan of chick flicks, but that is why I enjoyed this movie. It humorously mocks the genre I despise, and had me in tears of laughter during the entire movie. I may have had a few complaints, but they were only minor.

I find it somewhat amusing and I didn't hate it. Gave me a chuckle here and there but a lot of it was just flat out lame. Better than Disaster Movie and Epic Movie at least.

The choice is yours: Shell out 10 bucks for this dire spoof of recent romantic comedies a la "Scary Movie" and "Not Another Teen Movie", or toss your 12-year-old nephew a quarter and get him to act out scenes from his favorite movies for 80 minutes: The entertainment value will be about the same.

Arguably the lamest of all the free-wheeling genre parodies that have taken flight since "Airplane!," Date Movie is stupefyingly unfunny in its attempts to mock romantic comedies, celebrities, reality TV shows and anything else that pops into the heads of its creators.
