50Delgo demonstrates how hard it is to create a memorable, credible-looking piece of animated entertainment.
-
50Delgo is blocky and hastily coloured in. Characters are stiff; there is little variety in movement. It's a cheapo product ideally suited for a Saturday-morning pyjama vigil in front of a small screen. And the film suffers from a poverty of imagination to boot.
-
The battles are boring and the jokes as flat as old 7-Up, but the film's color palette and creatures -- from teeny buzzing critters to a monster that looks like a giant dust mite -- offer a lot to see. It's just not enough to save the convoluted story.
-
40Too leaden for adults and too baffling for kids.
-
38The story is tedious, noisy and banal. It is also rather dark and convoluted for children, though it does have the familiar bombast of a video game.
-
30Delgo is a dud.
-
25A few magic rocks and tepid battle scenes do little to inspire interest in the goings-on as Malcolm McDowell and Eric Idle spout villainy and punch lines, respectively.
-
You'll just wonder why this isn't a video game you can actually play.
-
It says plenty about how torpid the storytelling in Delgo is that the end credits are probably the best thing in the film.
-
Too grim for kids and too dumb for grown-ups.
