The dialogue they deliver is crisp, witty and occasionally biting. Levin's script has the style and rhythms of the kind of romantic comedies of the '40s and '50s when actors like Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn used verbal banter like boxing gloves.
Destination Wedding is bitter, bubbly and ultimately refreshing, the Aperol Spritz to your sickly sweet Amaretto Sour.

I literally just signed up to Metacritic just to leave a review for this movie. I loved it! The second I saw Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder in a movie together I knew it was made just for me. I will always thank Hollywood for letting the guy who was in Bill and Ted’s Exellent Adventure become an A-List actor. And since I’m an 80’s kid who wiill forever love the Reality Bites Wynona Rider of the 90’s, seeing both their names in a movie together was epic. I’m also an Adult Romance reader, which is a third of the reading population, so I live for romantic movies. And Yasss! to dialogue. Great job writers, you created one of the wittiest and smartest Rom-Com’s I’ve ever watched.

The short and salty-sweet Destination Wedding is less of a conventional romantic comedy than it is a high-concept chemistry experiment.
While Levin’s writing is sharp and observant, it’s also often overwrought and eventually just plain tiresome.
A couple of scenes in Destination Wedding fall so calamitously flat I had the disconcerting sensation I was watching the film dubbed in a foreign language or for a spoofed internet meme.
The way Destination Wedding uses misanthropy to augment screwball tropes ends up being its undoing.
Reeves and Ryder work very hard to make Destination Wedding work, but deeply unlikeable characters and a clunky script means there’s no escaping the fact it’s a disappointing misfire.
Frank&Lindsay exemplify the old adage Misery loves company and boy do they ever. Their over analysis of minutiae/long diatribes drains the movie of whatever emotion it might have. Levin missteps by only having these 2 unappealing people talk incessantly, never interacting with no one else. Reeves handles the heavy handed dialogue well whereas Ryder's Lindsay gives into her feelings far earlier than he does. The more it tries to upend conceptions of love the more similar it becomes. No surprises as I knew from the onset, the outcome.

I hate to say it because I like both of these actors quite a bit, but wow, was this a snoozer. I mean, this should have been a play with a unit set. The two actors talk to nobody but each other for the entire film. Keanu is so tough to like. And Ryder's character is so scattered. Just a rough, rough film that seems to have lost its way shortly after the premise was established. I didn't walk out, but man, it was close.
