JayH.Sep 8, 200810A brilliant black comedy, one of the best ever. The performances are sublime, especially George C. Scott. The direction is so on target. The writing is among the best ever. Superb in every way.

-
MartinLMay 21, 200910Peter Sellers gave a great performance in all the roles he played in this movie, but George C. Scott stole the show. This movie is a great glimpse into the paranoia of the Cold War. It is an example of how powerful a comedy can be If done right.

GilbertMulroneycakes,OrHowILearnedToLoveBrevityInNJul 13, 200310Absolute class. Take a look at the NY Times link; it's from 1964 itself and is as interesting in its own way as the film is. Only problem with the film is the abrupt ending: the final scene in the War Room seems a little...mistimed. Tiny niggle though. This is a masterpiece.

BuckT.Dec 10, 200410Arguably the greatest comedy every, from arguably the greatest director ever ... the performances are top notch and the subject matter cuts to the quick. It answers the question "how do you make people laugh about what terrifies them most?"

AustinS.Nov 10, 200810This film is magnificent, somehow it is able to perfectly highlight the stupidity of mutually assured destruction, without showing pictures of ruined cities or people dying of radiation sickness. It never makes light of the situation and yet is able to remain funny, an extraordinary feat.

CraigA.Sep 12, 200810Razor Sharp. A country that can consider Sarah Palin, a gun-totin' loon that "wouldn't blink" at War With Russia, as a vice-presidential candidate, REALLY needs to revisit material like Dr Strangelove!

MarcelCJul 6, 200910I would give it a 9.5, Dr. Strangelove should have appeared more in the movie. The acting is also awesome and the film have the black comedy, satirical and sometimes nonsense touch which is so difficult to find well placed in a movie nowadays.

RussW.Apr 26, 200810The most brilliant black comedy ever made. Features memorable performances by Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, and Slim Pickens. More classic scenes than I could count on both hands. A bizzare plot, but not as bizzare as the cold War doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) that it so effectively satirizes.

Jun 17, 201110People usually overlook how funny Kubrick films are, but Dr. Strangelove, The Killing, Barry Lyndon and Full Metal Jacket are all rich in timeless comedy, dark as that comedy might be.

Jan 27, 201210A film that is a true masterpiece. It has it all; comedy, suspense and a well told story. The film truly shows how silly people in goverment can be. Not trying to say this is what actually happened during the cold war although I do have a suspicion. Overall an unbelievable film which could never be created today because of people's longing of a happy ending.

Feb 17, 201310Peter Sellers is definately the funniest actor ever. This movie shows us why. And due to the path our society has taken, its criticism may never stop being modern.
-
May 26, 201310This and "Oceans Eleven" easily takes the title of best comedy film. And this comedy is still surprisingly relevant even today. Utterly one of the best films I have ever seen. This will go down in history as the best satire ever created.

Mar 6, 20129An uncompromising insight into the us versus them Cold War mentality, its impact strengthened by Kubrick's clever satire. The movie contains three different but equally satisfying stories that examine war on a personal and political level. This is an intelligent and bold film that highlights the paranoia and ridiculousness of the time.
-
Jul 9, 20129I'm loathe to give anything a ten as you can always go better... but this is up there. Unmatched and endlessly quotable, "Gentlemen you can't fight in here..." Watch and learn.
-
Feb 13, 20139Certainly one of the best comedies i have ever seen. The great thing about it, is that it's more than a comedy. It gives you an insight into the military way of thinking and into human nature in general, via sarcasm. Brilliant!
-

-
Sep 1, 20107Stanley Kubrick's black comedy about cold war paranoia.
Peter Sellars is outstanding (I'm not a big fan) although mainly for President Muffley & Cpt Mandrake rather than Strangelove himself.
The rest of the cast ham it up quite well but didn't think it was as funny as a lot of people make out. -

100A masterpiece... The genius of Dr. Strangelove is that it's possible to laugh -- and laugh hard -- while still recognizing the intelligence and insight behind the humor.
-
The ultimate touch of ghoulish humor is when we see the bomb actually going off, dropped on some point in Russia, and a jazzy sound track comes in with a cheerful melodic rendition of "We'll Meet Again Some Sunny Day." Somehow, to me, it isn't funny. It is malefic and sick.
-
100The film is a model of barely controlled hysteria in which the absurdity of hypermasculine Cold War posturing becomes devastatingly funny--and at the same time nightmarishly frightening in its accuracy.
