The movie smells like "Grindhouse", but "Drive Angry 3D" has level of unpredictable humor, cleaner violence (if you compare this to Tarantino's or Rodriguez's), and crazy story line that, believe me or not, does a better job than "Grindhouse"

Nicholas Cage is a bad-ass with retarded effects. Drive Angry could not be challenge with awful special effects and putting in together with goggling scenes with nothing new for this horrendous crap.

You have to take it for what it is. It's by no means a top of the line action flick. It does it's job as a grindhouse style movie with cool action and cheesy effects. Not as bad as a Nic Cage movie can be! Amber Heard is HOT!

I don't know how much more the big screen can take from an increasingly timeworn, disheveled action star, whose movie roles are as hit-or-miss as his receding hairline; though not all to blame. "Drive Angry" is a bottom-rung action flick that comes up short--never seizing any sort of connection with its viewers; lacking any sort of directorial control, intactful character progression and substance, shoddy special effects, and overdone, often intolerant lewdness situated amongst the most unbelieving of circumstances. The film is host to a lasting effect of shortcoming; creating a smutty after taste of despondency and a near failure of a movie. The result, a plethora of plot holes and ambiguity camouflaged by shots of pneumatic rears, bouncing breasts, and overall insipidness. Expand

Drive me angry, definitely a C-Class movie. Not even a single memorable moment. Milton (Nicolas Cage) is a father who escapes from hell to avenge his daughter death and urges to save the only baby granddaughter, meanwhile the Accountant from hell is assigned to retrieve Milton. I wish I do not have to review thiz movie, bcoz bad words gonna break loose either. Trapped inside the Cage again, we are tired of your experimental Hot-Shot wannabe since GHOST RIDER (2007). Amber Heard is expected to be the Hot Chick element but on the contrary she has become unsexy and extremely boring. The villain, Billy Burke is expected to be fierce and memorable, but instead of that he delivers emptiness. The only appearance that is a rather sizable is coming from William Fichtner as the Accountant with his charismatic and eccentric character. The story itself is never clear since the first time. The action sequences are amusing, always shaking all the time and not focus. I did not even know what is really going on at that time. Yeah, it is a terrible cinematography. It is coming from the Director who almost every time putting anything that smells cliché and not original into his films, such as: DRACULA 2000 (2000) and the remake MY BLOODY VALENTINE (2009). It is intended to be made as Cult Movie or something different, but eventually it becomes a big blunder. Gimme one good reason I should not shoot you in the face, well I know you are driving,.. But your driving is sucks.

Not a terrible action flick per say but it does have it problems/annoyances. Im not usually a nit pick kind of guy. I enjoy a movie for what it is, a movie that entertains. This does entertain me, decent action parts, decent chase scenes. Nicolas Cage is a hit or miss actor. And OMG is Amber Heard so hot..hot dayyum. Worth a watch if you like somewhat decent killer/action flicks...worth the bag of popcorn I ate over it. Expand

Metacritic really needs to take a look at all those critic ratings they've listed as "50s" as they read more like "70s." This is a funny action picture that delivers. That's what all those critics are saying. They're not dissing it for miss the mark as a semi-satirical spin through '60s drive-in and/or grindhouse type fare. It's lewd, crude and it moves like gangbusters, with babes, muscle cars and lots of bizarre gratuitous violence and Satanist villains to boot! Terrific propulsive and plugged-in performances by Cage, Heard, Fichtner and Morse. It's a shame this film got dumped by the distributor but it will rock in home video as word of mouth will be super-strong for this super-wrong movie that gets just about everything, including the 3D, raucously and rudely, righteously and rawly right! If you saw the poster of the movie and thought of a movie with abundant action and car chases, well, your wrong. "Drive Angry 3D" is a revenge exploitation (Not sure of that) film about....revenge. It's excessive with blood and gore as well as hell. The story goes up the hill with inane 3D effects as well as the arrogant dialogue, but you'll like it thanks to the sexy Amber Heard and a cool ass Nicholas Cage (Ya know, Nicholas Cage could actually continue his career with acting in B-grade movies like these) . Overall I would advise you to rent it, but watch it with pure fun. R) 5.5 Expand

It isn't a great movie by any stretch of imagination, but it does its dirty work quite well and it is able to deliver one hour and an half of crass, mindless entertainment coupled with cars, satanists, Agent Smith-like devils and magical guns.

There is one good reason to watch this movie, and that is Bill Fichtner's incredibly entertaining star performance as a marshal from hell. Amber Heard is not bad either, as a very spunky side-kick to Cage's fugitive. A fairly predictable movie, heavy on the gratuitous violence. Nicolas Cage, the ostensible star, look puffy and washed out, delivering a typically sleepy performance, punctuated by a few incongruous moments of gaiety. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sacha Baron Cohen's "Bruno" was not your typically passive moviegoing experience. The follow-up to the comparatively gentle "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" was confrontational art masquerading as a mainstream film. It contained moments of stupefying audacity that were both simultaneously puerile and archly ideological, and without fail, left audience's jaws on the floor due to the no-holds-barred approach the provocative comedian used to finesse his subjects into exposing themselves, their true selves. The worst of the bunch, hands down, the ugliest of the ugly Americans, has got to be the stage mother at the faux casting call interview, who doesn't have the decency to, at the very least, wince or do a double take, after already having failed to get that the joke is on her, when Cohen goes over his character's purported project, a photo shoot featuring a Nazi Germany crematorium scenario, in which her baby is either going to be the SS officer, or the Jew. Not in the same league as the holocaust, but nevertheless, bad in its own right, "Drive Angry 3D" surrounds its very young child around devil worshipers, whose leader, Jonah King(Billy Burke), plans on sacrificing with a ceremonial knife, in the midst of fast cars, fast women, and a whole lot of violence. If memory serves me right, the baby doesn't even have a name; its protector, John Milton(Nicholas Cage), couldn't be bothered with learning the name of his slain daughter's only child's name. It's just as well that the infant go nameless, because if the baby had an identity and been allowed to be more than a prop, the jeopardization of the dead man's granddaughter would have been all the more offensive. By remaining, what is essentially a live-action cartoon, the film's immature trappings desensitizes us to the creative bankruptcy of its exploitative narrative. It doesn't attempt to manipulate our feelings with gratuitous close-ups of the young girl. In fact, the moviegoer never does get a good look at her. She's just a body wrapped in a blanket. It's not the filmmaker's priority to make us care about anything, least of all, a child's welfare. Any semblance of urgent paternalism on John's part to safeguard his blood's blood from Satanic ritual gets neutralized by the film's preoccupation with spectacle, in which the twin pornographies(sex and **** violence) with its prevalence for motivational unilateralism, has a reductionist effect on the protagonist's role since his heroic actions are compromised by digressive acts, impediments to forward momentum that suggest a hidden agenda. This aesthetic of cross-purposes comes to the fore in the diner/motel sequence where sex and violence join forces in an emphatic shoot-'em-up so over-the-top, it suggests that one night stands played an important role in the damned man's decision to escape from hell. In a race against time to hunt down the kidnappers, John Milton finds time to have dangerous sex with a waitress, which belies the time sensitivity of the mission at hand. As a result, "Drive Angry 3D" has no urgency, no suspense, no drive. At Smithfalls, an abandoned Louisiana prison, site of the human sacrifice, John Milton, in his capacity as the hero, kills Jonah with the Godkiller, but not without causing a lot of collateral damage, in which he takes down the cult leader's followers, who should be rehabilitated, not murdered. This happy ending, the recovery of his granddaughter, epitomizes his callous disregard for extraneous people, akin to the incident back at that motel, where the waitress' life, hanging in the balance amidst heavy gunfire, doesn't stand in his way of achieving a(wink, wink, nudge, nudge) "happy ending" of another, euphemistic sort. After the mayhem dies down, John hands the girl over to Piper(Amber Heard), his foul-mouthed partner on this highway to hell, who doesn't seem all that thrilled about being a mother. Right about then would have been a good time for a close-up of the baby in an effort to help transform this human prop into flesh and blood, who is referred to("Your daughter's death will pale to what happens to the baby," said Jonah), but never spoken to. Piper says nothing. Some mother. Just like the one who signed off on "Drive Angry 3D". Expand

It's an over the top Action movie, with bits of Comedy. I actually think I would've enjoyed the film a bit more if Nic Cage wasn't in it. I mean this guy could be considered one of the best damn actors in the biz if he didn't accept roles like this. Not that this is a bad role to take on, but it's a bad one for Cage. He needs to stick to Drama's damn it. This would've been a better role for Jason Statham type of Actor not fricken Nic Cage. Expand

the film starts very well and until the first half, goes forward very good. but suddenly metaphysics and guardians of hell and supernatural phenomenon enter the movie. this thing have nothing to do with a parody. a parody must not take itself serious and want to say big things; like the first half of this movie.

Drive Angry is a total mess of a movie. It's saved from complete embarrassment by a few scatter-shot laughs and a sense of the film truly embracing it's own crappiness. Drive Angry knows that it's bad and manages to squeeze a few drops of quality out of that recognition. Still nowhere near good, though.

Nope! Nicholas Cage must be needing the money...the only redeeming qualities about this mean-spirited waste of time is the eye-candy from the female lead, and the guy from Hell who tries to bring Cage back. This movie has a little bit of cool camera effects, and an interesting scene where Cage is killing guys in his hotel room while otherwise "engaged." Don't waste your money; heck don't even wait for video. Skip it! Expand

By far, the best and most faithful of the recent grindhouse throwbacks. Great performances (especially by William Fichtner, who steals this film with his brilliant portrayal of The Accountant) back a hilarious and exciting homage to the drive-in exploitation films of the '70s. Destined to become a cult classic.

This movie seemed ridiculous, which is what made me want to watch it in the first place. This movie is funny because of Nic Cage, considering he's a horrible actor, which is why this movie just fails in the end.

Very disappointing movie. Nicholas Cage has lost his touch of you ask me. Had a hard time seeing how this was considered action. I'd say it is right along the lines of porn. The only action was in the beginning and that wasn't all that great. Don't trust the movie trailer, looks can be deceiving and that proves true for this movie. If your into very sexual movies with slight action this is for you. If not, i would suggest you not watch it. Expand

This is a pure drive-in B movie like the ones of the 50's, 60's, & 70's in the movie genre called "grindhouse." Grindhouse, the name of a Tarentino and Rodriguez double movie, is a genre of film that wasn't coined by them but has existed and Drive Angry delivers the B drive-in movie experience in spades. It used to be that couples and families would hook a cheap metal speaker to their driver side window of their car, open up a bucket of chicken and beers, and sit in a large parking lot of giant speed bumps where cars would be tilted up towards a giant white screen and watch a double bill of movies similar to Drive Angry. Drive Angry is the story about a father who escapes from hell to rescue his grandchild held by a group of satanic worshipers for a sacrifice to the devil. The story or the the hottest woman of the year, Amber Heard, are incidental to the style of writing and cheap B movie cinematography that makes this film an instant cult classic. Think the original 70's "Last House on the Left," the original 50's version of "the Blob," the original 50's "the Thing," or any Chuck Norris movie of the 70's before his tv shtick.
Worth renting, making popcorn and getting one of the films above to add to your double bill of the evening. Great movie like Gandhi, of course not. Fun movie like a violent sadistic, tongue-in-cheek version of Animal House not a perfect analogy, but you get the idea.
Drive Angry will only disappoint you if you're expecting more then it is: a B movie classic.

"Drive Angry" is a grindhouse movie about fast cars, killer coins, mutilated bodies, bullet holes, bad accents, human sacrifices, Satan, Satan's worshippers, Satan's Accountant, and a few conversations about slitting the throat of an infant so Hell could move up to Earth and party. Find anything that could offend you?

The star is Nicolas Cage. His choice of movies in recent years has be
en, questionable. Either he's been testing the range of his acting skills, or he's only been agreeing to do certain movies that require him to have a weird haircut. That man's hair has had more alterations than a teenager. After "Season of the Witch" and "Drive Angry", it's now safe to say that Mr. Cage needs to hire a new stylist as much as he needs to hire a new agent. Anyway.

Cage plays a dead, angry, blonde man named John Milton. Don't ask. His daughter has been brutally murdered by a satanic cult, and plans to execute her baby while they drink beer. Milton, who is in Hell, is not happy. (And that's not just because he's in Hell.) Pissed off and ready to kick some living ass, he steals Satan's special gun and makes his way back to earth in a car. (It's probably Satan's, too.) His actions are constantly monitored by the Accountant, who is the film's most interesting aspect. Abstrusely played by William Fichtner, the Accountant, fresh from the Underworld, is a silent, well-dressed assassin with physical abilities beyond human. So, in short, he is The Terminator from Hell.

Drive Angry 3D. Wow. I was blown away with the limbs and body parts flying on the screen in 3D. Bravo. This is a Grindhouse but kinda less violent and with more nudity. This is an explosive 80's flick, so jaw dropping that Tarantino might send flowers. The film circles around Milton a guy who escaped from hell to take back his baby daughter and kill the people who killed his wife. Then a hot chick Piper helps Milton to succeed his mission. It has explosive 3D, maybe the best I've seen in a film. So far. Director Patrick Luisser brings back his bloody violent 3D from My Bloody Valentine, which was disappointing. But when you put millions of dollars and get Nicolas Cage to act in your flick- it amuses me. So two thumbs up. Maybe some critics think its unorganized garbage but its what dudes like. Not suitable for EVERYONE but epic. Expand

The appeal of Drive Angry is much the same as that of "Piranha": a willingness to revel in absurdity to the degree where the exhilaration is infectious.
