The appeal of Drive Angry is much the same as that of "Piranha": a willingness to revel in absurdity to the degree where the exhilaration is infectious.

Despite amply funded f/x, including some spectacular muscle-car stunts, the movie motors to the grindhouse with squealing tires and guitars, gratuitous nudity and gore, and a scantily clad greasy-spoon waitress endearingly played by Amber Heard.

Almost as bad as we want it to be, which is to say, it straddles the line between campy and legit without winning over either audience.

Strictly for the midnight-movie crowd, Drive Angry serves up a non-stop stream of female nudity, flying body parts, gun battles and smart-alecky dialogue.

Here is an exercise in deliberate vulgarity, gross excess, and the pornography of violence, not to forget garden variety pornography. You get your money's worth.

We've seen Nicolas Cage when he's angry-and we like him when he's angry. So why does this painfully loud revenge movie skimp on the Cage rage?

Drive Angry is something new for Cage - a movie that feels like it's straight FROM cable.

Metacritic really needs to take a look at all those critic ratings they've listed as "50s" as they read more like "70s." This is a funny action picture that delivers. That's what all those critics are saying. They're not dissing it for miss the mark as a semi-satirical spin through '60s drive-in and/or grindhouse type fare. It's lewd, crude and it moves like gangbusters, with babes, muscle cars and lots of bizarre gratuitous violence and Satanist villains to boot! Terrific propulsive and plugged-in performances by Cage, Heard, Fichtner and Morse. It's a shame this film got dumped by the distributor but it will rock in home video as word of mouth will be super-strong for this super-wrong movie that gets just about everything, including the 3D, raucously and rudely, righteously and rawly right! By far, the best and most faithful of the recent grindhouse throwbacks. Great performances (especially by William Fichtner, who steals this film with his brilliant portrayal of The Accountant) back a hilarious and exciting homage to the drive-in exploitation films of the '70s. Destined to become a cult classic. Expand

A B-movie that has some fun moments, but not enough to recommend this film. Nicholas Cage does a good job at camping it up but a sub par script haunts this movie Expand

the film starts very well and until the first half, goes forward very good. but suddenly metaphysics and guardians of hell and supernatural phenomenon enter the movie. this thing have nothing to do with a parody. a parody must not take itself serious and want to say big things; like the first half of this movie. This movie is ludicrous. Cage is slipping, as are his latest offerings. The entire premise of this movie is completely unbelievable yet is it presented as though it is quite normal. Expand
