Cinematography - yes, but the lead is played evidently by a non-actor, which makes nonsense of the entire premise of the film.

In one scene Esther Kahn chews on glass and I'll bet it wasn't pleasant. But, not half as unpleasant as sitting thru this rot. Still, it has a great performance by Ian Holm. Catch it on video. God bless the Fast Forward button.

Brilliantly edited and gorgeously shot, Esther Kahn is a dream to look at and, courtesy of Howard Shore's minor chords and high-strung strings, definitely something to hear.

Summer Phoenix has a screen presence that's simultaneously distancing and transfixing, an inscrutability that makes her seem either mysterious or a complete blank.
