    Provocative and poignant.
  2. At once a tender love story and a psychological suspense drama that lays bare the acute tensions that threaten to tear apart an upwardly mobile suburban L.A. Chinese American family.

Lee obviously wants to portray Ethan as something other than the dutiful No. 1 son, but Ethan isn't entirely convincing as a doped-up street hustler.

Without contrivances, the movie would only run about five minutes.

An exhausting exercise in genre mixing.
  11. Desperately wants to deal dramatically with the legitimate issues of homosexuality, tolerance, homelessness and drug use. But to do so, the movie, like Ethan, would first need to grow up.

Some of the moments were a little adolescent; but, then, so they should be, as this is a movie about adolescents, cut loose from the usual family and social supports, looking for love, even when they don't know always how it's defined or always what it is. Full Review »
