Aimed at youngsters, this odd mix of fantasy and disease-of-the-week conventions doesn't really gel, though its ambitions are laudable.

    An earnest, well-meaning film.
  3. The film is admirably honest about death, so it may be helpful if you're looking for a way to talk to kids about a difficult subject. Otherwise, stand aside and let it pass.
  4. The drama is likably low-key but builds little excitement, and Bowie's star billing says more about the power of his agent than the number of scenes he appears in.
