Netflix's Extinction has its moments but is marred by a familiar premise, an uneven pace and a weak lead performance.
There are a lot of dark corridors, and the characters do quite a bit of ducking and crouching. Mr. Young handles it reasonably well, but I was struck by an unavoidable truth: These scenes of suspense and scare excel on a large screen, in a reasonably crowded theater.

Really good movie for the material. I have not been moved by a movie for a very very long time, so much that I hardly ever bother watching any.
Those that rate this lowly is judging it superficially. It depends on what you see and get out of it. There are a lot more than meets the eye. With any material, you have to be very careful of the content and keep an open mind, even if you think you know what it is.

This is an original sci-fi movie and well executed! I’d write more, but I don’t abide spoilers! Ignore the so-called critics, and watch this movie for yourselves. And finish the movie…!

Extinction is a competent, if formulaic film. Its dilemma, like many of the films in Netflix’s growing sci-fi catalogue, is the way its best parts are subdued on the small screen while its worst (dialogue and clunky storytelling) are enhanced.
Here, he’s (Peña) bland, under-emoting in the face of terror and fronting a middling actioner that isn’t as thought-provoking as its creators expected, as surprising as they think it’s “twist” is and isn’t smart enough to get out of its own way.
It’s a B-movie with a blockbuster attitude, and not in a fun way.
While the script is fundamentally flawed, the direction doesn’t help. Young, who previously helmed the brutal 2016 indie Hounds of Love, feels out of his element in the sci-fi action realm.
As always, metacritic proves they have no idea. This movie has nothing wrong with it. It's exciting, has great twists, and ends in a positive and exciting manner making you want to see more. metacritic, I know you are most likely people who failed to get into the industry, and are thus bitter, but get your facts right. People want to be entertained. This movie did that.

The hunt continues, it started so well, but when it hits that mid-journey the pacing and the plot just destroy itself. There was so much potential in here and I was immersed but then things just flipped, and then it flipped again, and just **** me right out.
I get it you want me to feel for the characters, but the problem is the "Aliens" and their motives, it's honestly one of the stupidest plots, You had to ask yourselves, would something like this happen? Probably not.
However, what I did like about the movie is the VFX, I like those insane futuristic explosions. Also, the drop ships are pretty cool. As for the main character...look I like Michael Peña but to me, he is not a serious guy, he's a funny guy. There was that one scene where he did the thing with the gun, that was badass, but there's not much of that.
The length of the film also is pretty short, maybe they should have gone near the 2-hour mark to let the film sit a bit more.
Oh, I almost forgot there are a lot of logic breakers, I mean come on, "get up and carry her", just why? The writers really wrote themselves into a wall there. The acting is also a bit off but permissible.
It is 6/10, entertaining but it's not good, Expected a little bit more risks here, with better acting from the main characters. It did at points focus on other things that were not that important, but again it's somewhat understandable considering the "actual actual" plot.

What starts off as a very dull movie is almost saved by the twist and final third act. Almost. After a very slow beginning populated by characters you're given little reason to care about, the movie ends just as you begin asking questions and it starts to get interesting. Some good action scenes, though the performances are pretty wooden.
