An excellent tribute to Lucas and all things scifi.

Likable but overall it's a pretty routine comedy that has a plot that is all too familiar. The cast is entertaining. Not bad, but it's not very memorable.

Awful. Totally awful. It was so bad I paused it about 3/4 of the way through and couldn't muster the energy to finish it off. Beyond the predictably lame plot, Dan Fogler is by far the least amusing thing about this film, and it's about a kid with cancer! He is literally less funny then cancer.

Being a HUGE Star Wars fan, especially during my younger years, I always thought a movie about its rabid fans would be a perfect idea for a comedy. Now that we have one...I wonder "what happened?"...the perfect idea for a nerd-comedy got flushed down the toilet. The problem is...the film just isn't that funny, the jokes and gags just feel so cliche, predictable, and executed poorly (the over-the-top scenes with the Trekkies was eyeroll after eyeroll, and it "could" have been hilarious). I for one, am NOT a fan of the cancer story...in my opinion its a dark cloud that constantly hangs over this movie and given the kind of comedy in this film, it seems so out of place. The casting is excellent (though I'm not sure what Kristen Bell was doing there) but unfortunately the comedic talent dosen't get to shine here, the actors used feel very wasted here...as in...I've seen the guys in other films, and they were FUNNY, not so much here. Anyway, the movie ends in predictable fashion with no surprises what so ever...and all I can do is feel bummed that this great oppurtunity was wasted. A curious rent perhaps...but an AVOID overall. A perfectly enjoyable geeky movie, an interesting concept that is good but wont appeal to a lot of people, but it's still a good movie from beginning to end.

"Fanboys" One line Review - Not as bad as it could have been, a lot of stuff was forced. Still a enjoyable view for any Star Wars fan, great cameos. C+

Bottom Line: Better luck next time…that’s hoping that there isn’t a next time. A good (but utterly failed) try. Hackneyed road “comedy” is artlessly a 90-minute homage to George Lucas’s well-known STAR WARS saga, most specifically THE PHANTOM MENACE. The film begins as a setback to Halloween night in the year of 1998. STAR WARS: EPISODE I – THE PHANTOM MENACE is still quite a few months away, but for some reason it’s on the minds of a group of four buddies meeting at a high school reunion: Eric (Sam Huntington), Linus (Chris Marquette), Hutch (Dan Fogler), and Windows (Jay Baruchel). They have all had a plan since the fifth grade to break into the Skywalker Ranch, which they think is ridiculous, until they realize that Linus is dying and he may not be able to live long enough to see the film. From then on, the film shows their journey to the Skywalker Ranch so they can break in and steal a print of the film. I must admit something, the plot is a very interesting one. But these are high school graduates not high schoolers, so the adolescent humor is misplaced. Honestly, maybe a lampoon on a STAR WARS tactic could have been useful, but as it was tackled in this film (a man trying to use a “Jedi mind trick” in order to make a woman take off her shirt, for example) was immature and dumb. If FANBOYS had tried to be a direct parody, defined as anything as far back as YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN to nowadays with the SCARY MOVIE series, I would have appreciated it notably more for what it was. The result of a film that tries to do what Mel Brooks did in 1987 with SPACEBALLS, is insipid and trite. The big thing about FANBOYS is that it clearly tries at humor and poking fun at STAR WARS, but it fails. In fact, I think I may have yawned while watching this even more than I actually laughed. Want a good, hysterical spoofing of STAR WARS? Try SPACEBALLS. At least that film accomplished what it tried. Expand

I don't quite understand the dislike for fanboys, maybe it's like marmite: you either love it or you hate it. Maybe to get a lot of the jokes and feel... to even empathise with the characters plus their actions you need to be similar to them, which for many may be a problem as not all of us a militant Star Wars fans.

It wasnt that bad. It was funny and entertaining to watch. However it never really rises above the level of an average comedy. I am sort of on the fence about this one, It was a solid film and nothing more imo.

This tribute to Star Wars is so much fun. 4 nerds are trying to see the new Star Wars moive before it comes out in cinema. But I think this movie is not for everyone. So descide: are you a little bit a Star Wars / SciFi nerd but you can laugh about this stuff? Than watch it!

End result feels like an uneven cross between an amateur "Project Greenlight" pic and such recent comedies as "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express," in which indie directors brought a certain edge to material that might once have felt more at home under the National Lampoon label.

Unfortunately, while Fanboys has moments of success, it is mostly a middling road picture that doesn't do a lot more than any average, forgettable entry into the tired genre.

The one genuine bright spot among the performers is Kristen Bell as Windows's would-be girlfriend, his dream combination of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Janeane Garofalo.
