I liked Fierce Creatures. It is pure comedy, Cleese-style - which alone is usually a winner - and it works on the same levels as A Fish Called Wanda. Admittedly it is not as funny (disappointing, but not surprising), and there is a noticeable dearth of side-splitting moments, however Cleese has this uncanny knack for winning you over, especially when you're not even aware of it! He writes uniquely amongst other screenwriters, but never in an alienating way. His comedy is his own, and it is always fresh! (I should point out too that credit must also go to Iain Johnstone, the other co-writer). One of Fierce Creatures' strongest points is that the story is novel and the characters are all of them engaging; this is never as easy as it appears. The thing I liked most about this movie however is the way the same actors are used in totally different roles, yet somehow each is infused with some of the idiosyncrasies of the those wonderful characters from A Fish Called Wanda. This is the cleverest example yet of how to make a sequel that is not a sequel. Add to this the generally smart direction and there's lots to like about this film - just don't get perturbed by the throng of cries, "It's not as good as Wanda" - that is irrelevant. Expand

Very comedic That is a sheer delight for anyone who is able to appreciate the simple joy and please that a cute family film can bestow on the mind.

Much funnier than "A fish called Wanda". This movie is a hidden gem. This movie has a great Python esk script and is well acted. I went out of my way to find this one on DVD and still watch it and laugh about once a year. What more do you want out of a movie?

    Doesn't quite click.
  2. The real fun here comes from watching Mr. Kline bounding through two archly good performances, Mr. Cleese coming hilariously unstrung in the presence of Ms. Curtis and all those adorable animals.

Cute lemurs and a couple jabs at corporate a--holery can't save Fierce Creatures from its manic malaise.
