  1. A giddy romp that never takes itself seriously in the slightest, and that makes Taipei look like the center of the gay universe.

More interested in romance than sex, Formula 17 swoons with youthful innocence.

While it has about as much depth and nuance as the bubblegum Sino-pop tunes that pepper its soundtrack, Formula 17 is a fresh, sweet-natured affair with an attractive young cast that should play to the gay-teen niche.

It might be, empirically speaking, the gayest movie ever released.
  5. At least it's as sweet as it is superficial.

There are no women or straight men left in Taipei. At least that's the impression left by Formula 17, in which every single person (except for one child) is a gay cutie.

I love this movie! Compared to "Bishonen" another boy love title, this movie is beyond words! The mere cuteness of the film makes me want to melt. And among other things, I couldn't stop laughing at their antics ^__^. If you are a boy love/yaoi/slash goer, this is definitely the movie for you! The intimate scene is probably the best I've seen among actors so far! Love it! Expand

You'd have to be without a heart not to like this movie. They're not writing for the Oscars, and they're not looking for Laurence Olivier and Vanessa Redgrave as actors. What they are doing is to tell a sweet story that should remind everyone, gay or straight, what first love is like. One other thing--it is sad that they gay aspect takes up so much of this movie, because it's as much about friendship as it is about love. Expand

Please do yourself a favor and do NOT see this movie. Me being a gay asian myself, i was excited to see this film, but was severely disappointed. It was only 90 minutes long but felt so much longer, due to the cheezy cliched storyline and cringe-worthy dialogue & script. several people even left the theater halfway through...it's that bad. the only saving grace for this was that the main character was really cute =).
