Could vie for the worst movie ever made? What were they thinking when they made this. J Lo has no talent on the silver screen; but for Benny Boy this could be some kink in his future box office appeal. What was he thinking?

Pointless. Apparently there were script-rewrites during the movie to feed on the whole ben/jennifer thing. bad sign. the acting is awful, the plot goes into oblivion, and the dialogue is painful. many moments in the film are just the actors staring at each other, as if they forgot their lines. stupid.

"My name is Gilgi. Rhymes with 'really'....." THAT is the funniest line of this movie. Actually, my boy and I were laughing as we left the theater - 3 MINUTES into this load of crap. There isn't one reviewer out there, that can't convince me this is the WORST movie of ALL TIME. Livia, you have no brain. Indian humor? Doesn't change the fact that the acting was horrific, the cameramen were absent, and the dialogue was nothing short of insulting. I mean, come on, she hits on him, then she's lesbian, and then she has sex with him? WHAT?

Do people hate Jennifer Lopez? A couple of months ago, Conan O'Brien's monologue began with the news that Hispanics were now the largest minority group, and mused that it would help explain Lopez's enormous popularity. Or do people hate Ben Affleck? That lingering controversy over his screenwriting credit on "Good Will Hunting" just won't go away. Which leads us to "Gigli", the purported worst-movie-of-the-year isn't even the worst-movie-of-the-summer. For starters, this is Lopez's best performance since "Out of Sight". She makes the godawful line about "the mouth being the twin sister of the vagina" work because her character would say something goofy like that. She reads new age books. Affleck doesn't feel like a criminal because his life in crime was a choice made by default. You feel no conviction in him when he breaks a young punk's laptop. Either Affleck's a crappy actor, or his character is going through the motions of a tough guy. You decide. As for the mentally impaired character, it's not cute that he knows the lyrics to rap songs. We've already seen Nicholas Hoult in "About a Boy" do this bit to perfection. And his obsession with "Baywatch" reminds us that he's not Dustin Hoffman. But incredibly, this character, who seems to exist merely for comic relief, snaps into focus at a beach party. This small victory of his is more exciting than anything in "Seabiscuit". Save the knives for J. Lo's music career, Affleck's turn in "Daredevil", and the stupefying length of Brest's "Meet Joe Black". "Gigli" is not "Moment by Moment". Expand

Gigli was a horrible movie but I saw jersey girl and it was great!! It was unquestionably one of the best movies i have ever seen. And everyone else i know that saw it loved it too. Jennifer Lopez was only in the very beginning and the rest was mostly about Ben Affleck and his young daughter. The young daughter (Raquel Castor) is the cutest little girl I have ever seen. Another absolute masterpiece by Martin Brest. It's rather unfortunate that this film has been universally shunned, if you actually examine this movie closely, you will begin to appreciate the overwhelming depth of acting and storyline. The wonderful chemistry between Lopez and Affleck alone makes this movie worth watching. Affleck's portrayal of Larry Gigli really showcases his tremendous talent. Although some of the lines in the film upon reflection seem silly, the actual script and screenplay has to be considered one of the best of the year, hands down. Perhaps if everyone saw this movie several times like I have, they will begin to uncover the underlying themes, and appreciate the efforts that will undoubtably give Gigli a cult following. Don't listen to the negativity about this film, anyone who actually gives this film a chance will ultimately be consumed by the splendid acting and directing genius. Gigli definitely gets my pick for movie of the year. Expand

I have to wonder if "Lodde" isn't a troll involved with the production of the movie in some way. Yeah, you can only hope for Gigli to get a cult following since it was pulled from 2,080 screens on August 15. Seventy-four million dollars in production and marketing costs down the drain and all they have to show for it is a $6 million box office gross. While Gigli might be Lodde's "pick for movie of the year," but the only honors this dreck will be getting next Spring will no doubt be in the form of a Gold Raspberry. Don't waste your money at the 135 screens Gigli is still playing on, or when it comes out on DVD. Expand

The only thing preventing a lower score is that the Metacritic rating program doesn't allow negative numbers. Horrible script compounded by embarrasingly vapid "acting." This is the beginning of the end of the J.Lo phenomenon and a severe blow to Mr. Affleck's career.

I simply cannot understand the overwhelming disdain for "Gigli," the latest from the ever-brilliant Martin Brest. It feels like the "Swept Away" of this year - a good film is judged to be awful before anyone has even seen it. "Gigli," while not the masterpiece that was Brest's 1998 "Meet Joe Black," is a highly entertaining, funny, and clever film that questions conventional ideas of love and duty. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have a generally OK chemistry, though neither are particularly blessed in the acting department. The film is fun and engaging, with an ultimately uplifting tone. The score is absolutely beautiful as well. So don't jump on the bandwagon - see "Gigli." Expand

That would take at least 15 drinks and I only had 6. With some editing, the video track would be a good candidate for "Kung Pow, Enter The Gigli". I'm rating this a 7 even though I'd only give it a 5. This is basically to combat the entirely negative response which is wholly unnecessary. This film, while not great (or even good, for that matter), is certainly not the awful film pre-release buzz made it out to be. It is quirky, it has some charms, and Jennifer Lopez comes across as rather effective. Roger Ebert had it right in his review. This one was just lambasted by those sick of the media saturation of Lopez and Affleck. Expand

This is great film, Affleck gives stunning performance as wise man with fluffed pillow. Lopez matches him in the outstanding department, with great scenes on giant couch and with balloon simulators. The storyline is very much clever and filled with twists and turns that would make M. Night Shamylan blush. How Martino Breaszt failed to win the Academy Oscar Award for this film is beyond me, it is reminding me of the fellow Rob Reiner's best film movies. Also Pacino gives excellent performance, almost as good as his Corleone character but darker and with more conviction. Genius film. Big 10/10. Expand

A bizarre misfire. One with an intelligent theme. The idea of two gender stereotypes ending up with one another. The story's premise is the films downfall. How does Ben turn Jennifer Lopez into a heterosexual? Why is a rapping retard funny? Where on Earth is the plot? All this and more makes Gigli a generally tedious, offensive and dispiriting moviegoing experience. Recommended only to Martin Brest fanatics. Expand

This is terrible, but it's not so much the actor's faults, as limited as Lopez is she's more than bearable, but the script and direction. Everything Martin Brest touches turns to s...t. The movie he made with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins was worse than this, and I can think of a couple Ben Affleck films that are worse than this. He needs to read the scripts he gets first. Bartha, however, is hilarious and is the sole reason to see this movie. Get drunk first. Expand

It is by no means a great film, or even a good one, but it is also not quite the disaster that the hype claims it to be. I found J Lo's screen presence strikingly warm, and her character quite likable. Her and Affleck do have some chemistry as well, also contrary to what you may have heard. Also, to my surprise - (nobody has made mention of it), the film has a very nice look (I think it has the same cinematographer as Punch-Drunk Love). The film falters horribly, however, in cheesiness (overly orchestrated nonsense), and especially in its graphic descriptions of the male and female genitalia and gender preferences. OH yeah, there are also some unexpected wrist slashings and a fish that chomps down on a piece of brain matter after a man is shot too... Kind of threw me for a loop. I also found the way the retarded boy was treated to be mildly offensive, if not shocking in some scenes. All in all though, the film is neither good nor bad, but it has its share of good and bad parts. It is nowhere near the train wreck that Glitter was, I promise you that. Expand

Way better than the buzz. It seems that people panned this movie strictly based on that they were fed up with the Bennifer phenomenon. "Gigli" sure has its problems, mainly that it suffers from the fact that the plot isn't particularly interesting, but the movie is completely harmless - nothing special in any direction, but works as a way of killing time.

I like this movie very interesting The only reason why this movie might not appeal to someone is because Indian culture is very unique and if the audience is totally unaware of the culture, the movie might come as a bit of a shock, and they might find it impossible to relate to. Also, some of the jokes or puns-intended could be termed as “Indian humor” as those could be things that happen only in India . Though these jokes are probably not something that everyone will understand and might only be appreciated by Indians or people who are familiar with Indian culture, I don't think the director could do without those jokes as it is these small things that sets the movie apart from others and puts it in its own class with its authenticity and realism. This was the most awful movie I have ever seen. I disagree that it was a watchable bad movie because 3/4 the way through i yelled at my boyfriend to stop the movie. Jen and Ben have no chemistry and not at all convincing at gangsters. Jen is less convincing as a lesbian. The scene where her "lesbian lover" slits her wrists was supposed to be dramatic but it was just stupid. The speech Ben and Jen gave about the male and female body parts was pointless, mind numbing and made me want to rip my ears off. I didn't understand why it was a part of the movie, and it was probably used as a filler for a too short movie. Not to mention the Head boss Louis who does not even convince me that he could be a head mob boss. Whoever did the music for this movie was obviously tone deaf as the music was the same for every scene. The music sounded dramatic/classical/sentimental and did not at all fit any scene. Whoever wrote this movie is DUMB (thats all there is to it) and whoever else had a part in it needs to rethink what movies they partake in. It was put together so badly. This was the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. I thought the critics were exaggerating and just being hard on Ben and Jen because of their relationship status, but it turns out - they were right, and underexaggerating. This movie made me want to rip off my ears, gouge out my eyes, punch Ben and Jen in the nose and stomp on the video itself. WORST MOVIE EVER! Expand

Writer-director Martin Brest lends the film a professional sheen, and his stars (who some rumors suggest may have become romantically involved) have charisma to spare, but the film has all the charge and momentum of a Paxil ad.
  2. A watchable bad movie, but it's far from your typical cookie-cutter blockbuster. There are no shoot-outs or car chases, and there isn't much romantic suspense, either.
  3. The problem with Gigli is that it is an inept attempt to do Elmore Leonard by Martin Brest, a filmmaker whose coarse sensibility makes him catastrophically unqualified to the task.
