Goal! hits the back of the net and is an early candidate for the funnest movie of the summer.

Most sports films are also fish-out-of-water stories, and this one qualifies as both.

There's enough realism to keep a soccer buff like me happy, but the film is aimed at the young at heart, and I think they'll love it.

The cast, all around, is sterling. There's only one thing they don't need to bring back for the sequels, and that's the movie's appetite for every sports cliché there ever was.

The appealing young man's tribulations are predictable, his triumph inevitable; while he gets respect, we get another Rocky-style dose of emotional uplift, cloaked in the usual game-day clichés.

Handsomely shot and with a likable lead in Kuno Becker, it also suffers from a script so outrageously generic you could buy it at Costco.

I'm a massive fan of football so I loved this movie. Not exactly funny but still a great movie for football (or soccer) fans.

Kuno Becker scores big, but this movie was too long. Trimming 30 minutes off would solve a lot of the redundancy in the plot and get this moving.

A decent soccer flick. Although it's overflowing with sports-movie cliches and acting is average in most scenes, Goal! seems quite A decent soccer flick. Although it's overflowing with sports-movie cliches and acting is average in most scenes, Goal! seems quite authentic (save for Munez's practice kicks) and is genuinely fun to watch. Good to see another sports scene either than the typical American football or baseball fare. If you like soccer, you'll get a kick (bad pun I know) out of Goal!. Expand

Half believable and half not. Genuinely the plot may happen to a point but I extremely doubt it would go so far. You can spot what will happenHalf believable and half not. Genuinely the plot may happen to a point but I extremely doubt it would go so far. You can spot what will happen by picking up the box. It was just far too predictable that any of the tension was sucked out of the movie. The Cameo appearances are meant to be WOW moments but really they are not. I did not care. The film was pointless and really did not have any emotional depth to it. The actors playing footballers you can see are terrible football players and the plot is as thin as paper.
I would really not waste my time and I will not watch the second film.. Why would I? I bet I know that plot as well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I really like football, and i find the movie so awful that it hurts, we all can see that Becker's ability playing football is below 0, because when we look him with the ball, the skills are laughable, and other thing that annoys me, is when he's going to shoot the final free kick, of the most important game in his career, he uses his left foot, despise him not being a lefty...
