Grace crosses our taboo lines over and over again. As we are under the general (mis)conception that babies are a blessing sent from God, Grace violates all that is good and natural in the world. And that’s why it’s so awesome.

In the showdown between mother and mother-in-law, the proceedings are peppered with spasm of violence that are alternately sick-funny and downright chilling, but don't cancel out the intelligence, or at least drollery, with which so much of the film is put together.

Mr. Solet does not possess anything close to Mr. Polanski’s storytelling or image-making skills, but with the help of his sound crew (four people are given sound design or editing credits), he keeps you on the edge of your seat, or perhaps the edge of fleeing the theater.
  4. Grace doesn't need a high body count to frighten, although its gore is stomach-turning. It's a horrifying meditation on the unbreakable union of mother and child.
  5. 40
A muddled, logic-starved provocation, Grace avoids smugness by refusing to play its body horror for sh**s and giggles, but its resonance is purely atmospheric.
  6. Whimpers a bit like "Rosemary's Baby" and gurgles occasionally like "The Exorcist," but the video look and bare-bones craftsmanship all scream B movie.

Absolutely unnerving and creepy, it feels much like a Stephen King story in it's use of psychological drama. I would give it a 10, but Absolutely unnerving and creepy, it feels much like a Stephen King story in it's use of psychological drama. I would give it a 10, but there are a few times where the acting just isn't right. Still a great movie! Highly recommended and totally original. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Grace: 4 out of 10: If you create a shark attack movie at some point, you will need a shark attack. You can throw in tons of satire about progressive attitudes, over-bearing mother in laws, and maternal instincts. However, when all is said and done the shark has to show up.

Grace is slow to start and it never speeds up. The film ends a few scenes before it starts getting good. As a genre film, it is a sleepy disaster. As a political independent film it is simply okay.

Grace has good acting, the world's cutest black cat, and some biting social commentary.

What it lacks is a killer baby.

Stick with It's Alive, which does all of the above (sans the cute cat) and yet delivers the goods at the end.

This review contains spoilers. Just watched this on pay cable today. It was alternately painfully boring and incredibly gross. Should have been called Lesbian Vegan's Vampire Baby, for truth in advertising. I'll give it three stars for making my treadmill time (slightly) less tedious than staring at the wall would have been.
