Not as good as the original Halloween movie but it is still great in its own right. I like both of these Halloween movies and the way Zombie did them. For people who are going to see it for the story. Your review should not even be counted because you do not rate a Slasher based on its story.. there really is none or its usually very simple. You have to rate it completely different from other movies. Anyways like I said it was a good movie. Expand

Halloween II is an excellent horror film that stands aside from the original Halloween. However, Halloween II really never received the credit it was due. This is partly because most horror movies attract a young immature audience, and secondly related to the fact that John Carpenter did not direct and reincarnate Halloween. Aside from this, what Halloween II does show us is strong -continuity- from the original with a deeper storyline. This is one of the few sequels overall that nicely stands out on its own. Expand

So much promise... such bad execution. Less thrills and more gore does not equal a good movie. Want a good Halloween sequel? Go get Halloween 4, H2O and the directors cut of 6.

The critics are dead wrong on this one to have given it 32/100.. While this film doesn't match the original (nothing can), it is still an effective sequel worthy of watching multiple times. With a strong start detailing the aftermath and police investigation/manhunt for the at-large Michael Myers, the movie loses some steam in the middle part when people start to disappear and others find themselves searching the hospital for each other, and the body count starts to mount in methodical fashion. A very strong ending saves this flick from a little lower rating IMO. Recommended. Expand

To say the least: EXPERIMENTAL... I enjoyed the rawness of the look and feel of this HALLOWEEN film... The kills were brutal and the visual presence of all out raw brutality was as real as it gets if the kills were to really happen in life... Stabbing someone in the face 20 times your face will look like raw mangled flesh meat... Now take a close up picture of that and you have 2 hrs of the new HALLOWEEN 2... Needed more music from the original picture. Expand

Some of the atmospheric visuals in this movie are amazing. Random shots of the moon shining behind tangled tree branches are gorgeous even when the rest of the film is shot in a style intended to make it look grainy and muddy. Old-school fans should know that Michael is completely reinvented in this one: Eating dogs, stabbing each person wayyy more times than are necessary, and grunting his way through each killing. But if you accept the fact that it's meant to be A)different than the originals, and B)different than the 2007 remake, then you won't really be too shocked when you realize half the film is dream sequences. One more thing: If you're confused after it's over, research "Folie a Deux." No, not the Fall Out Boy album. That oughta clear some things up. Expand

The only reason I am giving this movie a 9 instead of a 10 is because I'm looking at it through the Halloween fan's eyes, not a Rob Zombie fan's. There is a LOT of visual effects that might not appeal to the typical horror movie fan, but Zombie lovers will appreciate it.

Great moments in stabbing; it's a short history. Joe Pesci, of course, in Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas", stabbing a "made man" in the car trunk with his mother's cutlery. A film about gangsters, the mafia, needs to show how such men conduct their business. It's not gratuitous; it's what they do, kill. Among films of recent vintage, the alleged Zodiac Killer in David Fincher's "Zodiac" deserves special mention. He stabs a young couple, shockingly, in daylight, on a seemingly perfect day. It's not gratuitous, it's historical, and Hitchcockian, to boot. The stabbing in "Halloween 2", while not altogether graphic, becomes so, as the implied violence of Michael Myers(Tyler Mane) upon the nurse feels graphic, because the filmmaker's intent feels inhumane. By my count, Michael stabs the nurse thirteen times. That's a lot of fluid he leaves behind on her mutilated body. He humiliates her; it's "bukkake" with blood. For this filmmaker, death by strangulation is what passes for subtlety, and perhaps, more disturbingly, humanity. Lucky for Laurie's friend, Michael kills her before she gets naked; before she gets stabbed while doing, "it". Unlucky for the moviegoer, her partner had to pee first. The stripper, on the other hand, had no such luck, no time to put on a blouse. While fully disclothed(topless, but not full-frontal), in arguably, the film's ugliest scene(the one with the dog is a close second), Michael bashes her face, repeatedly(by my count, six times), into a mirror. (sigh) Some people find this entertaining. (sigh) Not only is "Halloween 2" violent, the film also lacks narrative credibility. In a crucial plot point, Laurie's epiphany, which is set up as the film's emotional high point, seems downright laughable, due to the circumstances. Laurie(Scout Taylor-Compton) lives in a relatively small-town; she should know what the film contends she doesn't. Expand

Mediocre horror film with too many dream sequences and way too much allusion to white horses and princesses for my taste. The film literally falls apart before your very eyes. I am a tried and true Halloween series fan, but Rob Zombie's reboot just goes further and further astray. Let's hope this is the last of the sequels.

I guess being in the minority of people who enjoyed the first film, I was actually looking forward to seeing the second. Boy was I disappointed. If you've seen the two full length trailers then you've seen the first 30 min of the movie. That being said it was just a corny hommage to the original Halloween II just minus the fact it was written so poorly you didn't care if Michael just ended it there and killed Laurie. The rest of the movie is basically your generic slasher film with no character development, lots of screaming, and cliche kill seens. The Laurie character is never built upon from the last film and the Michael character is just butcher Expand

I can't say I hated this movie, nor liked it. The psycho elements around Myers and his family was interesting approach, but the extremes in personality changes reached by the characters of Lorie and Loomis took me away from the story. That and the fact that Myers grunts when he kills people. Maybe it's just me, but I always saw Myers as a ghost and hearing him felt like braking the character. Honestly, I didn't care seeing Jason running in the remake, but I mind hearing a voice on Myers. Overall, the movie isn't bad, I just think it's a shame that Zombie didn't manage to bring his version to the Halloween story where it should've go. Feels like he ran out of gaz. Expand

By far the worst movie of the entire franchise, and that's saying something. I would rather watch Part 5, 6, or Resurrection than this piece of cr*p. What was Zombie trying to do with Loomis' character? I thought Loomis was supposed to be the heor of the story, not an egotistical publicity hound. This movie spends so much energy trying to make every character as obnoxious and repulsive as possible, at the expense of generating any real suspense and terror. Just an awful movie. No two ways about it. Expand

This movie has nothing going for it, at all. This is the only movie I would ever give a zero. The only thing Halloween 2 gives you is questions. How can Laurie and Micheal have a shared hallucination, why is micheal killing random people when his objective is to find Laurie, Why aren't the police investigating these murders but the biggest question is "Why should I care"

I am not at all a fan of Zombies directorial take on this iconic charecter and story. However, he sets out to do what all directors fail to do when doing a remake. Remakes are a reimagination of a classic storyline. We as audience members hate the idea of remakes because ultimatly it turns to be corny because they bite off of past films using iconic quotes etc. What Zombie does is he changes the format here, he pushes the envelope and creates a whole new list of stakes for all the charecters and his reimagination completly takes over, this agravates a lot of people. Zombie's aartistry in regards to brining gore back to the screen is rather refreshing and orginal... again i do not like his vision of this story and charecters but he pushes buttons and gets people talking and well isnt that what theater and film is all about ... leaving the space talking? Kudos to Zombie for a job well done ... very original and cutting edge! Expand

I love horror movies and i even love some of rob zombie's movies. i thought his first re-make was amazing. it had heart, vision and most importantly it had a story. i was very excited to see his second (and hopefully last) installment in the series. i was very, very unhappy. i am not trying to compare it the the original series because after all this is rob zombie's vision. the problem i had with it was a. the story. probably one of the worst i have seen in awhile. b. the acting. one of the things i loved about the first one was the young michael. i don't know why they did not reuse him, but this actor was horrible in his place. and finally c. this movie just plain stunk. besides the two reasons mentioned above this movie lacked everything the first one did. there was no heart, no vision (unless you call those delusions throughout the movie them, they were bad). people can say whatever they want about rob zombie, i personally like most of his films, but this one was just over the top and in a bad way. all these words i am writing are coming from a person who loves campy horror films and troma films, but rob zombie messed up this series like most people have re-making these films we grew up loving. i am waiting for the day we can start making movies that are original again and not re-makes of old films or foreign films. This movie was definitely a major letdown after his Halloween remake. He seems intent on making a statement about modern society (psychiatry, the media, family, etc.) which in and of itself is laudable for a horror movie. The problem is that the "horror" aspect is somehow lost in this maze of psuedo-morals which are made laughable by his excessive depictions of gore. One almost wonders if Zombie laughs in disdain at his audience and views them with as much respect as he does pop psychiatrists who profit from others' pain, much like the Loomis he portrays in the film. I truly hope that this film was simply a bump in the road for someone who appeared to love and respect the horror genre. Perhaps it's time for Rob to stop emulating (trashy B horror, Italian Horror films of the 70's, slasher films, etc.) and begin creating a vision completely his own. His last film in the Halloween franchise should be a step in that direction...but only time and his next film will tell. Expand

Rob Zombie should really stick to making music. Once again he ruined what is a classic film in my opinion. He totally went off the whole story of the 1st one and kept characters that died in the first film in the 2nd one! The man should give up now before he does more damage. I'm really disapointed in this one! :(

I loved RZ's 1st 2 flicks. This one is his weakest. The girls are dumb and annoying, expecially the lead, who spends most of the movie crying (when she's not partying). This is a chick flick for the goth-depraved-and-proud crowd. The action is all a blur due to hand held jittery close-up's. The suspense and fright of Carpenter's original is totally missing here, despite (and maybe because of) the constant intensity. There's a good funny moment with Weird Al and a good inside joke with McDowell. Expand

This movie was pretty good. It had its flaws but then again you are watching a halloween movie not saving private ryan so obviously it will have its flaws. The story was a bit strange and hard to follow at parts but it still was and interesting a fresh approach to this classic franchaise. And Zombie adding this new approach is much better in my opinion then just redoing the original series. And for the whole michael grunting when killing people, well watch the original he grunts he's not completely silent throughout the film and lets be realistic here you think that a person who is 6 foot 9 will be like a ghost when he kills no he will be more brute like in his killings. All in all this movie wasn't as bad as everyone tinks and it is a good way to spend a hour and 45 minutes of your day. Expand

I really had high hopes for this film. There are many good ideas present, such as the interesting directions the characters turn in the aftermath from the first film (with the exception of Loomis... they raped him.) The visual style is top notch; this is one of the best looking horror movies I've seen in years. Sadly, the story just doesn't do much. It's strung out in 30 different directions, and none of them seem to gel. Rob Zombie's worst film, but it's not all bad. Expand

I don't understand all the hate for this movie. It's a breath of fresh air in what was becoming a stagnant, cheesy series...I'm sure we'd all love to pretend Resurection does not exist.. While it is nowhere near the quality of the 2007 re-make, it is interesting to see Rob Zombie taking the story in a direction of his own, while still paying homage to plot developments of the older movies in the franchise. Sure, the story gets a little messy and hard to follow, but, all things considered, Zombie is still in the fairly early stages of his film career, and were 'warned' prior to the release that this would be like no other Halloween. So, I will agree and rehash what has been said by many: stop comparing to the original, if that's what you want, than just watch it. I think the fact that movie goers are so spit on this one, and the fact that people are having a hard time accepting it in the Halloween franchise should speak clearly to the fact that this is an innovative, welcome approach in today's laughable horror market. The first of these retellings was excellent. It added new depth to characters that were lacking in portrayal and took new turns into unexplored territories of the franchise. This newest installment did nothing of the sort. I felt the original gave the appearance that the film was set in the 70s and then perhaps the 80s, however in this they have cell phones, make references to Fergie, there are new cars, etc. Also, they give no explanation as to how Michael miraculously survives multiple .357 (a gun designed to destroy tissue and organs) gunshot wounds. Also, it's indicated that Michael was only grazed by the round Laurie fired into his face at point blank range. However, there is quite a lot of arterial spray for a simple graze. Not to mention, even though Michael is supposed to be this behemoth monster, the pain would be so immeasurable that he would not have made it ten feet. Then of course, there was the portrayal of Michael. After his mother died he never speaks in the slightest. He takes several extremely damaging blows and doesn't so much as whimper. I would have no problem with this but for the most part when he kills someone he grunts like a caveman, something he did not do in the first. I understand that I am referencing the first installment of the retelling quite a bit, but I feel that if you're going to make a sequel that follows nearly directly after the first, then you should at least stick to your character designs and plot concepts. Now, for the final nail in this coffin, Sherri Moon Zombie appears quite a bit in the movie as a ghost. I don't really consider this a spoiler, so I didn't mark it as such. The real reason she is in the movie, is because she loves attention and I don't think Rob zombie could deal with the fact of making a movie that didn't involve his wife in some way. Her ghostly appearances would have been freaky and weird, if she wasn't in every other scene, looking ridiculous and rattling off her dialog in the poorest manner. Also, why is the child version of Michael a ghost with his mother? Last I checked he wasn't dead, he just grew up. I would accept that when Michael put on the mask it represented a fracture in his psyche, but the boy version of Michael is wearing a mask as well. So if Zombie was trying to achieve that point, he simply made it redundant. I only give this movie a 2/5 because the gore was quite good. But if you're looking for something more than that, or perhaps you hope that this movie will broaden the characters more-so than the first, I suggest you look elsewhere. Reluctantly 2/5. (Also, fun fact, a third is already slated and is going to be in 3D. The best part: Rob Zombie isn't directing it.) Expand

I see what's in front of me: a not-great sequel to a great original. If it scares you, more power to your elbow, but frankly if this scares you the first one would probably kill you. At least Pleasence and JLC are in it.

A mediocre sequel with bad acting, cheap thrills, and a gritty onscreen look. It works though. It probably would have been better had the Halloween titlewave of the original resided before this film opened.

I loved the original - it's one of the best horror films ever - but the sequel really is crap! As I mentioned in my comments for Halloween, it was so effective because of what you didn't see, rather than what you did. This first sequel forgets that entirely and just throws one grisly scene after another at you, none of which compare for scare-factor to those in the original. The whole film is just numbing, actually boring really! It doesn't evoke responses anything like the original. Gilbert was spot-on: if this movie scares you, the first one would probably kill you! I thought this movie was not as bad as everyone says it is. Of course it isn't as good as the original because the original is one of the greatest horror movies out there. This acting is ok but the music is foreboding and creepy. It's campy fun.

Most of the kills are needless and the suspense from the original has gone.

Wow, what an utterly craptacular movie. Let me guess what Rob Zombie's favorite word is. One hint - It starts with an F, ends with a K, and has two letters in between. If you can get past the horrible dialague, we get to listen to Laurie scream her head off the whole movie, watch Dr. Loomis serve absolutely no purpose in this "film" other than to pimp his new book, and one unimaginitive hack-hack-hack murder after another. At least throw me a little creativity with the kills, if nothing else. Twice as bad as the remake of part 1, and that's only because Zombie had John Carpenter's original classic to base the storyline on. On part 2, Zombie was flying solo, making up his own storyline, and he crashed and burned horribly with this one. And you gotta love the old "fooled you!" endings. So unoriginal and cliche. Argh. This movie was horrible. And although there are a few cool visuals throughout the movie, (which felt like 3 hours more than it really was), it was almost unbearable to watch. it trys to be brutal and just comes off digusting and tasteless. Absolute garbage. Watch the original "Halloween II" from 1981. At least that one is watchable.

Halloween II is a lot better than the lame original, more blood, more gore, it is so much better! TWO THUMBS UP! Rick Rosenthal really had the right idea making this movie with more blood

I don't understand this. THESE ARE REVIEWS TO THE WRONG MOVIE! Alright, now time to review the ORIGINAL Halloween II. The first Halloween was a great movie, and while this one is stale and definitely cliche, it does have a good ending, some scary scenes, and is probably the best sequel that the series has had. Not good necessarily, but it isn't horrible. Rental at best.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bottom Line: Slashings. Slashings. More slashings. For whatever reason, Michael Myers enjoys it, but even seeing it, Halloween II comes across as dull. To barely alter the most famous quote from THE SHINING: “All gore and no plot makes HALLOWEEN II a dull film.” It seems now that Michael Myers just loves to heartlessly, mindlessly slice and dice his victims (which is technically every young person in sight). Like the first one, this is made a la a B-movie (though this time, it wasn’t one). Unlike the original, we see every single murder in detail, and NOTHING is implied. It takes away the whole point of #1! To alter Jack Torrance’s infamous words in THE SHINING a little more, what would really make sense is to say, “All gore and slight plot makes HALLOWEEN II a dull film.” The story picks up exactly where the first HALLOWEEN left off. Once Michael Myers escapes after being shot six times (he’s back!), Laurie Strode is taken to the local Haddonfield hospital. She is blood typed, and among all the time Laurie spends trying to escape Michael Myers, little does she know that she has a close connection between him. (I won’t spoil it for those who have not seen it.) It’s a great continuum of the first one, and very creative, but it seems that the plot is just being taken over by recurring, unrelated bloodbaths, nevertheless. The whole mood of HALLOWEEN II was, thankfully, the same as the first one. Even though it has now become a true slasher film, most of which aim not to terrify, it has an unsettling, eerie mood, and an irresistibly tense feeling. Who ever decided to record the music for this one, though, truly copped out and screwed up John Carpenter’s original score, doing things such as playing the title theme backwards and playing the themes on a modified organ rather than a piano (though the harpsichord, which was sometimes used in #1, is kept more often than not). Aside from the still-fantastic performances of Jamie Lee Curtis (char. Laurie Strode) and Donald Pleasence (char. Dr. Sam Loomis), the acting in this film is not all that great, and if anything, unintentionally funny. Even Dick Warlock can sometimes do a dumb job as the main serial killer. Especially in that one scene near the end where he can’t see anything or anyone, so he starts swinging his knife around like a total idiot. So unless you were left hanging by the last few seconds of the first HALLOWEEN, I would not really recommend HALLOWEEN II. It’s easy to see why John Carpenter decided to abandon his role as director right after the first film, and only parts are good. It just seems like Michael Myers is going around murdering everyone in his way, using whatever he sees in front of him, and that is often taking away from the plot. (Though I did enjoy the face-melting scene.) Expand

Acting: Not that great. The character of Dr. Loomis got very annoying. But, he seemed to annoy all of the other characters as well so maybe that was intentional. I doubt it though. Michael Meyers is, well, Michael Meyers. he's a silent big dumb lumbering character. Laurie Strode is in the movie for a whole 15 minutes total at best. all Jamie Leigh Curtis (speaking of her, Tony Curtis died today or yesterday I'm not sure which. But RIP Mr. Curtis. and Gloria Stewart.) had to do was scream and run. Just like the last one to be honest. That's all that any characters had to do. It was just weak or annoying performances all around. 2/10 Plot: Actually, brace yourself: There was no plot. It was simply 90 minutes of Michael Meyers walking around killing people. The first one had intrigue, it had stakes. You actually cared what was going on and why these things were happening. With this, there's none of that. It is 90 minutes of solid killing. No stakes, no plot devices no deviation form that plot. Nothing. It was an empty plot. 0/10 Screenplay: There was no screenplay either for 60%-80% of the movie. It was again, just Michael Meyers killing. 50% of the lines that were there were just "we have to find and kill Michael Meyers. He isn't human" or a variation of that. The rest of the lines were dull and unimaginative. 0/10 Likableness: well, despite everything else, I liked the kills. There were some interesting kills in the movie. Some were ridiculous but others were interesting and well done. There is nothing else to like in the movie. 3/10 Final Score: 5/40 12% (S) Also, I will say this. This movie is unfortunate because THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE LAST ONE!!!! TRIVIA TIME: 1. Believing Rick Rosenthal's version of the film to be too tame, John Carpenter shot a few gory scenes that were added into the film despite Rosenthal's objections. 2. In the scene where Michael tries to attack Laurie as she's climbing through the window the scalpel that he's holding was actually just an eraser on a stick. 3. To get the role of Michael Myers, Dick Warlock revealed that as he passed by a room, the Michael Myers mask was on a table. He put the mask on and walked into Rick Rosenthal's office and stood there. After Rosenthal continuously asked him who he was and he didn't reply, he took off the mask and asked if he could play Michael Myers. Expand

(First of all, Quite a few idiots commenting on this. They have the wrong film - This is the original Halloween 2 and not the remake) Overall, It was a rather generic horror film. I find it rather stupid that Michael couldnt hunt down a girl with a bum leg and many other injuries. Also it ended rather stupidly as well. The acting was average, A little bit better then the previous film. Its no where near as good as the previous film. I expected better. Expand

There are incredibly almost never any really terrific scares in 92 minutes - just multiple shots of violence and gore that are more gruesome than anything else.

Zombie does a lot extremely well. Maybe someday he'll find a movie into which it all fits.
