The real surprise is that it's a lot of fun, with Sandler becoming more personable as the film progresses, and a couple of truly side-splitting scenes.
  3. Adam Sandler is funny as the volatile hero, and the screenplay is just abrasive enough to keep the story surprising.

Tells the story of a violent sociopath. Since it's about golf, that makes it a comedy.
  5. Adam Sandler stars in a one-joke Caddyshack for the blitzed and jaded.

Added together, there are about three minutes of funny material in Happy Gilmore, and pretty much all of them are in the trailer, leaving a sometimes painfully unfunny 90 minutes with which to contend.

Roger Ebert you are a fool! This film is one of the greatest comedies of all time! I don't think I go a day without saying "Shooter!". This one of my favorite films and everyone I know loves it so screw you critics the fans have spoken! I made this account because of this garbage. Im giving it a 10 to balance the ridiculous 31. But i'd give it an 80 overall. Expand

Some critics doesn't like Adam Sandler these days, but forget them. "Happy Gilmore" was one of the best comedies of the 1990s. I love the film with a hilarious funnybone. My favorite part in the movie was when Gilmore met with Bob Barker from "The Price Is Right." Gilmore was trying to score a hole in one, but a fisherman of some sort distracted Gilmore and called him a "Jackass!" and that's why Happy wasn't happy at all. He cost him and Barker the game and when it's all said then done, Gilmore and Barker started to get physical and fighting their heads off as they brawled all the way to the end of the pond. And then Happy said "The price is wrong, **** I couldn't handle myself watching a classic Adam Sandler movie from Billy Madison to Big Daddy. I got it on DVD and it's a must-buy movie. Expand

Screw all the critics on this one. They're retarded and don't know what they're talking about. This movie is absolutely fantastic and doesn't need professional judging (critics) to make it sound or look good. This has been a legendary movie and it will always be a classic. Expand

Happy Gilmore is a cult comedy classic. This is easily Adam Sandler's best film and there few jokes that don't pay off. The plot is hardly the most original, yet that is not necessarily required to make a good comedy. The supporting cast are all excellent, but particularly good are Robert Kiel as a crazed Gilmore fan and Carl Weathers as Gilmore's coach. Expand

Not exactly brain food but it's still, in my honest opinion, Adam Sandler and Dennis Dugan's best work.

Adam Sandler has certainly made some terrible movies but Happy Gilmore, a film that is still talked about more than fifteen years after its release, is certainly not one of them. Sure the movie pretty much relies on one joke, namely the fact that Gilmore is an angry hockey player playing golf, but from than one joke it is able to produce more than enough laughs to warrant a watch. This one is funny at times, but nearly enough to make it truly worth your time. There are worse ways to spend 90 minutes, but there are also much better ways. At the end of the day, the plot is highly implausible, but the feel good aspect of it helps bringbthe film out of the gutter completely. Expand
