The logic wouldn’t hold up under scrutiny, but García Bogliano’s unnerving mood, complemented by grungy camerawork and a shroud of sonic chaos, provides an emotional strain that makes anything possible.

Bogliano is not a subtle director — check his sudden zooms on items of portent — but he painstakingly shows us Caro opening her mind to the possibility of supernatural evil, and he's careful not to tip his hand too soon as to whether it's real or imagined.

Bogliano provides a steady series of jolts, all the way to an ending that’s twisty but ultimately unsatisfying.

It barely has a fright in it on its own, this bloody, Mexican-made supernatural thriller set in the hill country near Tijuana. But open it with a hot “Blue is the Warmest Color” sex scene, toss in a few other hot and heavy moments and a generous helping of nudity and you can be sure, at least, of getting a Hollywood studio’s attention.

Bogliano — who hit it big in indie horror with "Penumbra" and "Room for Tourists" — is a mood man, adept at unease and admirably judicious about shock moments, if not exactly skilled with storytelling or pacing.

Promises much in an ominously atmospheric package that nods to 1970s genre stylings. But the payoff is on the meh side.

The problem is that writer-director Adrián García Bogliano can't decide what kind of horror movie he wants it to be.

this movie wont be for everyone. I'm sure im not the only one who has a hard time with sexual horror. There is a lot of uncomfortable sexual scenes in this movie that will make it hard for some people to watch. They even get pretty damn close to crossing the line when it comes to the children yet thankfully they showed some restraint. For such a smutty type movie it did however feel intelligent. The plot was gripping and very intense and had me wondering until the end when it concludes very nicely. I liked the ending a lot and thought it wrapped things up nicely. It also left room for a sequel which would be interesting because of the unique antagonist in this movie. There isn't a lot of gore but when it shows up it was very unnerving and brutal. Here Comes The Devil is a movie that is too raw for a mainstream audience but is smart enough that it will probably find cult appreciation. Expand

HERE COMES THE DEVIL has a magnificent concept combining childhood sexuality and satanic possession. The cast is totally game and so into it, you question if they are actors. But the direction lies flat for much of the time and by the end, the makers of this film throw in everything including the kitchen sink, eluding to far better horror films. Still worth a look. Expand

This movie goes nowhere and ends up in the infinite pile of crappy horror movies where story is a mishmash of good ideas that don't stand alone as is but make no sense put together, and direction is as flat as uninspired. Special note for this one with useless additional sexuality (supposed to keep your interest but is actually pretty boring and killing the flow), and a lot of closeups coming out of nowhere, providing zero value to the action and ultimately making the movie look like a ridiculous super sentai series.
