  1. One of the few recent movies I have seen that plunged me into that rare, giddy state of pleasurable confusion, of not knowing what would happen next, which I associate with the reading and moviegoing experiences of my own childhood. But there is no reason that children should have a monopoly on this primal, wonderful experience.

    Great, multilayered family film.
  3. It's got an involving, adventurous story to tell and the wherewithal to tell it correctly. And while young adults may think this is intended only for them, in truth it's their elders who are especially starved for this kind of entertainment.
  4. It eschews obvious effects, but even more impressively, it tells a story without an obvious moral. It assumes that kids can wrestle with a fairly complicated narrative and draw their own conclusions.

Overall, there is a lot of flip-flopping between stories, sometimes jumping back and forth more frantically than an episode of "Seinfeld."
  6. A movie that feels a bit like digging a hole in the ground -- an exercise that may build character but doesn't seem to accomplish much else.

Suffers even more than the Harry Potter films from a compulsion to be faithful to the source material, including cramming in a head-spinning assortment of characters and subplots.

On its own, its a great movie. As a real-person disney movie, its perfect fun for the whole family. It clocks 2 hours with the snap of a finger, it has an important message to give to the people and it's probably the Shia LaBoeuf movie that made him who he is today, with Transformers, Eagle Eye, etc. All the actor roles are excellent, especially Sigourney Weaver playing as The Warren and it's a tale of the past depicted really well and in an interesting way. Both adults AND children will love this movie, but some material may be unsuitable for very young children. Watch this movie!! Expand

Yes it does get a little stupid at times and the acting is average at best but the film just has "It", Its a cult classic imo. Expand

I remember the having to read the book back in grade school because we were going to be seeing the movie and going to watch a play about it ohI remember the having to read the book back in grade school because we were going to be seeing the movie and going to watch a play about it oh yeah and its a book all about morals. I actually really liked to book so i was excited to see the movie also it starred a young Shia LaBeouf (before he became a douche) freah off of his tv show Even Stevens which i also really liked. I love the movie even to this day despite it him being in it and actually this movie makes me not hate the guy as much. The rest of the cast is great though Sigourney Weaver, Jon Voight, Henry Winkler, Tim Blake Nelson, they all did good performances Dulé Hill(Gus from Psych) as Sam was great though he can fix anything except from being shot.

Overall i give it a 7.5 Im sure people just hate on the movie just because Shia LaBeouf is in it

Not half bad! Although I preferred the book over the film, this was a good movie for the family to enjoy.
