Two, seemingly unconnected, plotlines run throughout Identity. In one ten travellers are forced to seek shelter in a remote motel following a sudden torrential downpour. It soon turns out that there may be killer among them as one by one the guests start to go missing. Meanwhile in an office elsewhere a late appeal is being heard to decide the fate of serial killer Malcolm Rivers.

Featuring an excellent cast Identity does an excellent job of keeping the audience guessing throughout, almost everyone seemingly becoming the number one suspect at some point. When the reality eventually unfolds it is a truly unexpected twist that importantly holds up on second viewing. A tense, clever thriller Identity is certainly one to watch.

Identity has many twists in a whodunit mystery that will have you racking your brain until the final scenes. All the actors are potent and every character is likable. The thrills in the movie are original and what the movie is really saying is tough to unravel. If more thrillers like Identity were released, the theatres would be jammed. Identity is a brilliantly constructed horror thriller that piles surprise after surprise. The movie is a work of genius. I think the actors should collaborate on another movie but they've yet too. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Identity is a unique thriller. Twelve people end up stuck at a motel while there is a vicious storm. As the night moves along, each person is murdered one by one. None of them know who the killer is. They are all strangers and nobody trusts anyone after the murders begin. Every person scrutinizes the other carefully, because not everyone are what they seem. The roads are flooded and there is no way for anyone to drive out. The strangers find that they all share a connection. They all have the same birthday. In Identity like American Psycho all the motel scenes aren't real. The movie convinces you what you're seeing is real but isn't. The characters are personalities that exist in a mental patient's mind. He has multiple personality disorder. All his identities confront one another in his mind. The patient is on drugs that are meant to lower the amount of personalities he has. One of his personalities is the one who committed the murders. The patient Malcolm murdered six people at a motel. His doctor is hoping that the violent personality will be removed from his mind. The murderous personality ends up being a child named Timothy. In the movie the twist is very difficult to see because the killer isn't seen. Also viewers wouldn't expect a child as in Orphan. Children are considered innocent in nature and they usually are. Who would suspect the child is the murderer ? The plot twist is pure genius. At the end of the movie scenes are shown that fill in what wasn't shown. As in Fight Club scenes are shown to deceive you. Every time someone is murdered you only see certain scenes. What is shown isn't enough for the viewer to determine who the killer is. At the end the doctor and the committee who are going to sentence Malcom to death don't. They decide to send him to a psychiatric hospital under the care of his doctor. Unfortunately the violent personality takes over and then the patient attacks the doctor. They drive him to the hospital but the doctor and the driver die en route. Identity has similarities to many classic thrillers, it has a refreshing plot device shown uniquely. The movie is one of the most ingeniously made thrillers ever. Expand

  1. Cusack is especially good in a role that's got more (and less) going on under the surface, while Peet offers up another coltish, trash-mouthed vamp.

Managed to pull the rug out from under me about three-quarters of the way through, and I still hadn't found my feet when the credits rolled.
  3. A slick, bloody thriller, but it's also, to its credit, a genuine whodunit.
