This is a film that will resonate with viewers in a variety of different ways depending on their view of things. What begins as a deceptively simple satire transcends into an incredible and terrifyingly true philosophical musing that connected with me on a personal level in which nothing else has ever come close to.

Had James Thurber worked in animation, the waggish result might look and sound a bit like It's Such a Beautiful Day, indie cartoonist Don Hertzfeldt's alternately poignant and absurdist triptych.

A truly moving meditation on identity, family and (as the title of his previous short immodestly put it) the meaning of life, Hertzfeldt's magnum opus is more cosmically satisfying than "The Tree of Life."

Considering that he's a stick figure, Bill, the main character in It's Such a Beautiful Day, sure does have a complex internal life. And this animated film by Don Hertzfeldt does an amazing job of making you feel it, in all its sadness, terror and transcendence.
